The Opportunity

We are excited to announce a further Senior Data Engineer opportunity to work within our Solutions & Automation team in Retail. As part of our data capabilities, you will play a role developing data solutions for the Retail business. 
 
Data Engineers will use their experience in developing data pipelines and data warehouse data stores to deliver data capability to the EDF business. Data, of high quality and appropriately governed is a must for data outcomes your role will support and thus you will deploy your knowledge and skills to create quality data assets and products. 
 
Simply put, the role is developing data solutions, whether that be onboarding data or transforming data into different normalisation patterns for the consumption of business users.

What you’ll be doing 
 
As a Senior Data Engineer, you’ll be responsible for: 
 

  • Comfortable in a self-organising environment whereby you’re constantly making decisions on how to approach data solutions with minimal guidance. 
  • Understand the data vision set by the Product Owners, Technical Leads and Architects and ensure that you develop data functionality that aligns to the wider vision. 
  • Understanding data architecture principles and how they apply to your own activity. 
  • Developing code that is of a strong competency level, structured and optimised appropriately. 
  • Recommended data modelling methodologies require adherence and you will understand multiple methodologies in the data platform well enough to ensure that data capability follows agreed modelling practices. 
  • Promote and enforce the adoption of agile best practices, tools, and techniques within the product teams, ensuring adherence to Scrum framework principles. 
  • Collaborate with product owners, development teams, and stakeholders to ensure a clear understanding of product vision, priorities, and requirements. 
  • Actively seek opportunities for continuous improvement, both at the team level and across the organisation, through retrospectives, knowledge sharing, and agile coaching. 
  • Be the guider of the fellow Data Engineers or business users seeking to use data capabilities, setting up regular training sessions to upskill colleagues. 

 
Who you are  
 
As A Senior Data Engineer, you will need to have demonstratable experience in a technical data role that has delivered complex data solutions.  
 
You’ll have a solid understanding of cloud data tooling, whether it be ETL/ETL tooling, or enterprise data platforms is essential in order for you to develop data functionality on the data platform. 
 
You will have a strong understanding of data engineering best practices and standards that you have developed into data functionality to be consumed by technical teams and users. Be passionate about continuously challenging the status quo and seeking solutions to make accessibility and useability of the data platform easier to people of all technical levels. 
 
Strong SQL skills are essential for you to build data pipelines and data stores. Python knowledge is advantageous. You’ll also be a strong communicator who can effectively convey complex concepts and influence stakeholders at all levels. You’ll be able to demonstrate experience in facilitating events and coaching teams in adopting new practices, with the ability to foster collaboration, lead by example, and promote a positive team culture. 
 
It’s imperative that you have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to address conflicts and impediments to keep the team on track. You’ll thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, where you’re adaptable to changing priorities and requirements.
