Software Development Engineer in Test - Embedded Systems
Foster City, CA
Zoox
Zoox is a purpose-built autonomous vehicle designed for riders, not drivers. Learn more about the Zoox robotaxi and the future of ride-hailing.
As a Software Development Engineer in Test, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and tracking the progress of firmware validation tests. This role requires a candidate passionate about learning how things work to the point of breaking them. You will need experience testing complex embedded systems in a team environment focused on firmware behaviors. You will also use Software Engineering best practices to validate firmware with automation. Join us if you want to develop cutting-edge and state-of-the-art automation techniques in the exciting autonomous vehicle industry!
Firmware Core Validation is a part of the Firmware Core team, which develops and maintains bootloaders, device drivers, networking stacks, operating systems, modern C++ frameworks, middleware, libraries, and systems services for Zoox controllers. These controllers have a high focus on safety assurance and reliability and perform critical and user-facing functionality. The validation team ensures that the code we ship is of high quality and meets the safety and reliability requirements necessary for autonomous driving. We work with the developers to deeply understand how the firmware works and develop and maintain automated and manual tests to find potential bugs in the code and ensure the bugs are communicated and acted upon.
Initially, this role will support middleware, libraries, and systems services, with a long-term goal of increased cross-functionality in supporting validation for more teams within Firmware Core. Daily responsibilities will include attending design discussions, reviewing design docs and firmware pull requests, developing test plans based on requirements and other design knowledge, executing tests (either manually or automated), reporting on test status, and following up with developers to provide the necessary data needed to fix discovered bugs.
About ZooxZoox is developing the first ground-up, fully autonomous vehicle fleet and the supporting ecosystem required to bring this technology to market. Sitting at the intersection of robotics, machine learning, and design, Zoox aims to provide the next generation of mobility-as-a-service in urban environments. We’re looking for top talent that shares our passion and wants to be part of a fast-moving and highly execution-oriented team.
