Background:

Navanti is seeking a highly analytical and mission-aligned Data Scientist to support the FBI’s Hi-Tech Organized Crime Unit (HTOCU) at FBI Headquarters in Washington, DC. This position directly contributes to advanced criminal investigations and intelligence operations by unlocking insight from large and complex datasets.

The selected candidate will support two specialized teams—the Joint Criminal Opioid and Darknet Enforcement (JCODE) Team and the Mobile Encrypted Networks and Communications Exploitation (MENACE) Team. These teams rely on data fusion, enrichment, and visualization to investigate encrypted communications, darknet marketplaces, and other high-risk digital threats.

Work will be performed onsite and requires an active Top Secret clearance with Counterintelligence (CI) polygraph.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Perform data wrangling, normalization, and transformation on investigative datasets.
  • Create statistical models and dynamic visualizations that reveal patterns, anomalies, and leads.
  • Enable investigators and analysts by converting raw data into actionable formats.
  • Recommend and implement data architectures, storage frameworks, and retrieval pipelines.
  • Collaborate with technical and investigative stakeholders to define analytical requirements.
  • Document and present data methodologies, findings, and tools to technical and non-technical audiences.

Technical Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in applied data science, ideally in federal, law enforcement, or intelligence environments.
  • Strong proficiency in:
    • Scripting languages (e.g., Python, R)
    • Data visualization tools and platforms
    • Relational and non-relational databases
  • Active Top Secret clearance with CI polygraph is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Deep understanding of analytical techniques relevant to intelligence and investigative domains.
  • Experience with information assurance, anomaly detection, and statistical variance analysis.
  • Strong presentation skills; capable of translating technical insight into operational intelligence.
  • Familiarity with federal or law enforcement datasets, workflows, or investigative processes.
