THE OPPORTUNITY

As we expand, our Technology team is growing rapidly, driving innovation in AI for Workers Compensation. We're transforming the industry with cutting-edge solutions that enhance claims management, improve outcomes, and streamline processes.

At EML, we foster a learning culture, investing in our people to build long-term careers while shaping the future of technology in our sector.

As a Data Engineer, you’ll join our fast-paced, forward-thinking AI team and help shape the future of intelligent solutions. In this role, you’ll collaborate with data scientists, AI/ML engineers, and other specialists to design, develop, and maintain data warehouses, processing pipelines, and databases for both structured and unstructured data.

You’ll work across data integration, cleaning, transformation, and database management — ensuring the data that powers our analytics, machine learning, natural language processing, and AI initiatives is accurate, accessible, and scalable.

This will be a full time, 12 month contract position based in the Sydney office, with flexibility to work from home up to 3 days.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Architect, build, and maintain secure, reliable, and scalable data warehouses and data lakes to support machine learning and AI model training, validation, testing, and production, using structured and unstructured data sources.
  • Design and implement end-to-end data processing pipelines, ETL processes, and orchestration workflows to enable efficient data integration and processing for AI/ML model development.
  • Transform raw data into clean, structured, and high-quality features for AI/ML models — including data labelling, augmentation, feature extraction, version control, validation, cleansing, and deduplication to maintain data accuracy and integrity.
  • Develop and enforce data governance, security, and compliance measures, including encryption, access controls, authentication, and regulatory requirements, to safeguard sensitive data assets.
  • Create robust monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions for data pipelines and assets, proactively identifying performance issues and delivering optimisation improvements for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.

ABOUT YOU

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in data warehousing, data lakes, ETL processes, and data modelling.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and SQL, with a solid understanding of data processing and manipulation.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience working with cloud platforms and services such as AWS S3, EMR, Redshift, Glue, and Athena.
  • Extensive experience in designing and implementing scalable data processing pipelines, with familiarity in tools like DBT and strong knowledge of database management for ML/AI projects.
