What you will be doing
As an associate data scientists, you will be part of the Umicore data science team, situated at Umicore Corporate Research department (Olen, Belgium). This central competence team is aimed to be at the forefront of AI and successfully apply data driven modelling techniques towards the business units. In the data science competence team, you will be exposed to various data science techniques such as: vision algorithms, time series forecasting, transformers, genAI, reinforcement learning and more.
Together with a multi-disciplinary project team, you will deep dive on concrete business objectives and create new models to address these. It will be your responsibility to explore and invent new methods and models which address the business objectives. Your prior experience in creating data driven models and natural interest in the latest technology trends allows you to bring state of the art models to the business.
Your detailed responsibilities
As a Data Scientist, you will…
- Carry out data science modelling from data exploration to building and training customized machine learning models
- Provide technological foresight to inspire the business on potential opportunities of AI.
- Collaborate with different functional teams to implement data-driven models into production and ensure continuous improvements
- Work with stakeholders across the organization to achieve end-to-end model life cycle management: ideation, modelling, deployment, operations, domain experts.
- Be involved in setting technological roadmaps.
Who we are looking for
- Master’s degree in computer science, applied mathematics or engineering with relevant data science specialization
- At least 3 years of prior experience in data science
- Thorough knowledge of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages or drawbacks.
- Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, discriminant analysis, etc.)
- Good coding knowledge and hands-on experience in Python
- Prior modelling experience in the field of supply chain optimization or market forecasting is a plus.
- Understanding of cloud deployment, experience in Azure Databricks, MLflow and Azure Machine Learning (preferred)
- Interest in and past exposure to industrial activities, processes and technology
- Good oral and written English communication skills. Dutch is an asset
- Flexibility to work mainly in Olen and at least once a month in Hoboken office.
