POSITION SPECIFICS​

Join Penn State IT’s innovative Data Empowered Learning team, dedicated to enhancing student success through cutting-edge learning analytics tools like Course Insights and Elevate. We are seeking a skilled Front-End Developer to design, build, and maintain intuitive and impactful user interfaces for our next generation of learning analytics applications. The successful candidate will play a key role in translating educational insights and data into actionable, user-friendly web applications for instructors, advisers, and administrators.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, test, and deploy high-quality, responsive, and accessible user interfaces for learning analytics applications using Angular.

  • Collaborate closely with UI/UX designers, backend developers, data scientists, and educational stakeholders to implement application features.  

  • Work within our established NX monorepo structure and NodeJS development environment.

  • Build reusable components and front-end libraries for future use.

  • Maintain and enhance existing Angular applications, ensuring performance and scalability.

  • Troubleshoot and debug front-end issues.  

  • Research and integrate advancements in front-end technologies and best practices.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven experience as a Front-End Developer or similar role.

  • Strong proficiency in modern Angular framework, TypeScript, HTML5, and CSS3/SCSS.

  • Experience working within a NodeJS environment for development workflows (build tools, package management, etc.).

  • Experience consuming RESTful APIs.

  • Proficiency with version control systems, particularly Git.  

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.  

  • U.S Citizenship required

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or a related field.

  • Familiarity with NX monorepos or similar monorepo management tools.

  • Experience with data visualization libraries (e.g., D3.js, Chart.js).

  • Understanding of UI/UX principles and accessibility standards (WCAG).

  • Experience working in Higher Education or EdTech environments.

  • Familiarity with Python for backend development.


LOCATION

The Data Empowered Team is a hybrid team primarily located on campus at the University Park location. While in person is preferred, the position is flexible and can operate fully remote from within the United States during standard east coast business hours. 

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $76,700.00 - $115,100.00.
