Job Summary
Axalta Coating Systems is a leading global supplier of high-performance coatings, serving customers in the automotive, industrial, and refinish markets. We are seeking a skilled Color Systems Data Scientist to join our team and play a vital role in the success of our color modeling and coatings database systems.
The Color Systems Data Scientist will serve as a key technical liaison between Axalta’s Color Development, Manufacturing, IT, and R&D teams. This role is critical in ensuring the integration of color, quality, and regulatory specifications in Axalta’s global color modeling toolbox and coatings database. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of color systems, data management, and system integration, with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments and geographies to deliver accurate, high-quality color solutions on schedule. This role requires proficiency in data retrieval and manipulation, as well as experience with database tools such as SQL and Tableau, and proficiency in MATLAB and Python.

Key Responsibilities:
- Consultation & Collaboration: Partner with chemists to translate formulation and balancing rules into logical structures for inclusion in Axalta’s color modeling toolbox and coatings database.
- System Development: Collaborate with the IT team to define and implement software requirements. Work with R&D physicists to assist in the development of new algorithms that seamlessly integrate with existing gatekeeper-maintained logic and data.
- Regional Coordination: Manage coordination with regional and local gatekeepers to prioritize and address new logic requests, ensuring the effective use of resources.
- Color Development Process Integration: Understand the color development workflow and interact with teams across different sites to support the design of new database and model functionalities.
- Testing & Validation: Set up test data and perform tests of new functionalities within the color modeling toolbox and coatings database to ensure accurate performance for automated procedures and color development.
- Installation & Configuration Support: Assist with the installation and setup of color management software and measurement devices, including color measurement devices and associated systems.
- Formulation Database Management: Maintain and update formulation databases to support the development of validated color formulas for new and existing product lines.
- Training & Development: Provide training to local gatekeepers and assistants to ensure global adherence to best practices in color modeling and database management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Chemistry, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years data management and system integration ownership.
- Technical expertise in commonly used programming and scripting languages for data analytics (Python, Matlab, R, etc.) and database querying (SQL, Tableau).
- Minimum of 5 years experience in color science, coatings development, or related technical field.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with cross-functional teams and document technical processes.
