Job Title: Senior Manager - Data Engineering Lead

As a Senior Manager - Data Engineering Lead, you will be at the forefront of this transformation, driving the success of our data platform initiatives. Based at the Chennai GITC, you will lead a team of data engineers, develop and implement the data engineering strategy, and ensure the quality and reliability of our AWS and Databricks-driven data platforms. Your expertise in Databricks, PySpark, and AWS will be essential in implementing industry best practices and standards. Are you ready to make the impossible possible?

Accountabilities

As the Data Engineering Team Lead for the US data platform, your key accountabilities will include:

1. Leadership and Mentorship:

  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of scalable, secure data infrastructure and tools to support data analytics and science teams.
  • Mentor and manage a team of Data Engineers to produce high-quality, dependable, and scalable data products.

2. Technical Expertise:

  • Demonstrate expert understanding of AstraZeneca’s application development processes in the implementation of data products.
  • Function as an integral member of DevOps teams, participating in development tasks, with firsthand experience in ETL tools and expertise in PySpark and Databricks.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior members of the data engineering team.

3. Collaboration:

  • Work closely with Product Engineers and the CriticalOps team to share standard processes across all product release cycles for consistency.
  • Collaborate with data engineers to deeply understand data sources, transformations, and dependencies.
  • Develop and maintain a collaboration plan with Capability partners and business collaborators to ensure effective communication and alignment.
  • Partner with vendor managers to streamline the onboarding process for contract resources and ensure high-quality deliverables.

4. Innovation and Process Improvement:

  • Drive the adoption of innovative technologies and tools to enhance data engineering processes and efficiency.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to enhance the reliability, efficiency, and quality of data processing pipelines.

Essential Skills/Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong expertise in Databricks and PySpark.
  • Minimum 10 years of data engineering experience.
  • Proficiency with the AWS suite of applications.
  • Comprehensive understanding of quality engineering principles and standard methodologies.
  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities. Minimum 5 years of technical leadership and people management experience.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot and deliver solutions in complex data environments.
  • Experience in developing and implementing quality engineering strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and mentoring quality engineering teams.
  • Experienced in Agile Development techniques and methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical partners.

Desirable Skills/Experience

  • Certifications in AWS and Databricks.
  • Proficiency in scripting and programming languages such as Python.
  • Rigorous diligence and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Firsthand experience with data pipeline and data integration processes.
  • Familiarity with data governance and data management practices.
  • Solid understanding of data modeling, ETL processes, and data warehousing concepts.
  • Experience working in agile and exciting environments.
  • Prior considerable experience working in Pharmaceutical or Healthcare industry IT environment.
