Summary
Hummingbird Healthcare is building a future where AI-driven tools streamline operations and empower teams to focus on high-impact work. As an AI Automation Associate, you’ll work on fast-paced, experimental projects that use Generative AI to simplify workflows, automate repetitive tasks, and improve knowledge access across the company.You’ll explore emerging technologies, push their boundaries, and contribute to the development of tools that enhance clarity, speed, and efficiency for teams across Hummingbird. Along the way, you’ll be supported by experienced engineers and AI professionals who will help guide your development and ensure your work has impact.
This is a 10- to 12-week paid role during Summer 2025, designed for full-time participation, with flexibility available for the right candidate. It’s an ideal opportunity for an upper-level college student or recent graduate who thrives on hands-on problem solving, rapid prototyping, and building meaningful AI solutions in a real-world business environment. You’ll walk away with hands-on experience applying AI in real systems, and tangible projects to add to your portfolio.
Responsibilities
Example projects could include the following, or similar types of work:
- Deploying a GenAI assistant that retrieves and summarizes relevant documents from Microsoft SharePoint, Monday.com, or other internal knowledge bases.
- Building a user self-service workflow that can offer digital (and maybe voice) basic technical support and troubleshooting utilizing internal IT knowledge base sources, providing a graceful hand-off to IT Help Desk for more complicated issues.
- Creating lightweight, AI-powered assistants that provide step-by-step task instructions or answer internal questions.
- Running feasibility tests comparing different GenAI models for internal support and automation use cases.
Employment Eligibility: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Compensation: Between $28.62-$32.50-$34.62 per hour less statutory deductions, depending on experience and qualifications.
Work Location: This position is remote. You must work from a location within the United States with consistent internet service.

AI Workflow Automation & Agent Development
- Consider potential use cases for AI/automation tools, such as generative AI, machine learning, and/or API integrations
- Brainstorm solution design and test hypotheses to assess viability
- Develop and prototype MVP solutions, whether code or no-/low-code
- Identify integration potential into existing Hummingbird platforms (such as Microsoft Teams, etc.)
- Document design decisions, project risks, future potential roadmap.
System Integration & Automation
- Analyze how existing internal systems connect via APIs and identify opportunities to augment them with AI-enhanced capabilities.
- Build and test integrations using Workato, custom code, or system-native tools to plug AI agents into real workflows and datasets.
- Partner with operational and engineering teams to translate business needs into intelligent automation designs.
Rapid Prototyping & Experimentation
- Lead proof-of-concept experiments to test feasibility, performance, and usability of AI features.
- Iterate on prototypes quickly with feedback from internal stakeholders, adjusting logic, tone, and delivery methods.
- Evaluate outcomes using success criteria such as response accuracy, resolution time, or user satisfaction.
Documentation, Governance, and Compliance
- Document system logic, agent behaviors, and integration designs to support long-term maintainability.
- Follow security, compliance, and access control best practices, especially when AI tools access sensitive data.
- Write clear internal guidance for how and when to use newly developed agents or automations.
- Flag risks and propose improvements to ensure solutions are scalable, ethical, and supportable.
Required & Desired Skills
Required Skills and Experience
Rising junior, senior, or recent graduate with coursework in computer science, software development, data science, machine learning, AI or a related field.
Experience with software development, automation, or system integration through work, projects, or academic training.
Comfort working with APIs, Python, scripting tools, and/or low-code platforms like Workato.
Familiarity with the fundamentals of LLMs and GenAI platforms such as OpenAI, Claude, Gemini.
A fast-learning, experimental mindset with the ability to solve practical problems under ambiguity.
Strong written and verbal communication, especially in documenting complex systems for non-technical users.
Desired Skills and Experience
Hands-on experience using LangChain, Microsoft Semantic Kernel, Microsoft Copilot Studio, Azure AI Foundry, or similar toolkits.
Prior experience building or integrating chatbots, internal assistants, GPTs, or AI-driven knowledge tools,
Interest in business operations and how AI can augment human workflows in real-world systems.
