OVERVIEW:

Researches and drafts enterprise data management policies and standards including metadata, data classification, data retention, and access controls. Monitors adherence to enterprise data policies and standards and provides support to data teams on data quality and issue management.

FUNCTION:

Researches and drafts enterprise data management policies and standards including metadata, data classification, data retention, and access controls. Monitors adherence to enterprise data policies and standards and provides support to data teams on data quality and issue management.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain currency on changing industry standards and pertinent Federal and international government regulations on data management and data retention and its subsequent impact on related policies and procedures.
  • Collect business and technical metadata and work with assigned data team to manage their metadata in the enterprise metadata platform
  • Maintain the data issue register and consult with assigned data team to develop remediation plans and monitor progress towards remediation
  • Monitor data retention procedures of assigned product team and work with team to remediate any identified issues
  • Draft enterprise access control policies
  • Consult with the business lines to set up appropriate access groups based on data classifications
  • Work with assigned data product team to draft data sharing agreements
  • Participate in development of data privacy and classification policies
  • Consult with assigned data team to classify data
  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.  Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

None

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years related experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 7 years higher education and/ or work experience, including a minimum of 3 years related experience
  • Experience in at least one programing language or analytical/statistical tools
  • Knowledge of data management concepts, terminology, roles, and responsibilities
  • Experience completing data research using industry standard research methods
  • Experience enforcing data governance policy and standards in a local area

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

  • Intermediate ability to navigate and retrieve data from databases directly and/or through Application Programming Interface (API)
  • Experience with data management and query languages in big data environment or cloud environment
  • Intermediate knowledge of the data life cycle

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $82,783.41 - $137,972.36 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
