Data Engineer Intern

The Position:

We are seeking a talented and motivated student to join the Data Science Team as a data engineering intern. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work with experienced professionals to carry out real-world projects in data analysis, visualization, and software development. These projects will contribute to Veracyte’s analysis and visualization of complex multi-omics data used in developing cancer diagnostic assays. The ideal candidate is passionate about data, eager to learn, and possesses strong coding, analytical, and problem-solving skills.  

This summer internship will involve software development, as well as testing of data processing and visualization elements that enhance features of our urology product offerings hosted in cloud computing environments. Working in a well-supported and intensely collaborative environment, the candidate will have access to the tools, data, technologies, and expertise necessary for success. The internship will grant valuable training in diagnostic product development in a fast-paced environment focused on creating products that transform patient lives.  

 

• Conduct software verification and validation. Assist in preparing documentation of validation and verification results. 

• Develop and maintain JavaScript/GO/Python/R applications of dynamic data processing, analysis, visualization and reporting. 

• Evaluate model performance, conduct experiments, and iterate on solutions to improve accuracy and efficiency. 

• Assist in collecting, cleaning, and analyzing data from various sources to derive actionable insights and develop ML & AI models for oncology research. 

Who You Are:  

• Strong programming skills in JavaScript/GO, HTLM/CSS, R and Python 

• Experience with data manipulation and visualization libraries such as D3, ggplot, Shiny, tidyverse, Pandas, etc. 

• Knowledge of statistical concepts and machine learning algorithms 

• Ability to solve problems by querying LLM (such as ChatGPT) or searching Google and quickly debug and adapt code from such resources. 

• Experience with database technologies (e.g., SQL, NoSQL) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform) is highly desirable. 

• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. 

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. 

• Eagerness to learn new technologies and adapt to evolving requirements. 

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE (preferred but not required):  

• Knowledge of basic bioinformatics, genomics, and cancer biology 

• Knowledge of software testing frameworks such ReadyAPI and Testrails 

• Past research experience in oncology, bioinformatics, digital pathology, or relevant fields. 

LOCATION: 

• This is a remote friendly position. 

• On-site office available in South San Francisco or San Diego.

The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units. Veracyte is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.

Pay range$28—$32 USD
