Position Specific Description

 

The Principal Data Analyst will serve as a lead contributor and strategic partner within the Internal Audit team, guiding advanced data analytics initiatives and providing thought leadership on data strategy and continuous monitoring capabilities. The ideal candidate will have in-depth experience in analytics, advanced expertise in data engineering and data science techniques, and the ability to clearly communicate complex findings through storytelling and visualization.

This individual will architect end-to-end analytics solutions—from data ingestion and cleansing to advanced anomaly detection and predictive insights—while mentoring junior analysts and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive a data-first audit approach. This position offers an exciting opportunity to shape data-driven insights and support decision-making processes within a highly collaborative environment.

 

Job Specific Responsibilities:

  • Design and build scalable data pipelines, cubes, and cleansed datasets optimized for audit testing, anomaly detection, and ongoing risk monitoring.
  • Lead development of continuous monitoring frameworks that automate the identification of unusual patterns, exceptions, and red flags in business processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including audit and business leadership, to ensure data-driven decision-making.
  • Translate complex data into compelling narratives through advanced dashboards (Power BI), executive summaries, and visual storytelling techniques.
  • Apply advanced analytics methods including machine learning, statistical modeling, and natural language processing to uncover hidden insights using Python, R, and other relevant programming languages.
  • Develop robust documentation and validation processes for data models, algorithms, and audit testing logic to ensure accuracy and transparency.
  • Guide and mentor auditor on best practices in data analysis, cleansing, and visualization.
  • Conduct exploration and hypothesis-driven analyses to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in data.
  • Stay abreast of emerging data technologies and propose innovative approaches to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of audit analytics.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in business analysis, preferably in a similar role.
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL, Data warehousing concepts, and experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Python and/or R for data manipulation, automation, and statistical analysis, Experience with business intelligence tools, particularly Power BI.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and data visualization techniques.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to propose innovative solutions.
  • Effective communication and storytelling skills, capable of presenting data-driven narratives to non-technical stakeholders.
