Data Integration Specialist

Overview

The Reaching Impact, Saturation, and Epidemic Control (RISE) project is a multi-year global project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) working with countries to achieve a shared vision of attaining and maintaining epidemic control, with stronger local partners capable of managing and achieving results through sustainable, self-reliant, and resilient health systems. RISE South Africa is hiring several positions to fulfill the project mandate. The Data Integration Specialist is a Jhpiego position funded till September 30, 2025, with the possibility of extension. Under the direction of the Senior Technical Advisor for the USAID-funded Vaccine Readiness (VAX Readiness) Project in South Africa, the Data Integration Specialist will oversee the enhancement of the eIDSR and perform necessary analysis and testing of systems to ensure that data from various sources is accurately merged into a central system of the Notifiable Medical Conditions Surveillance System (NMCss).

The Data Integration Specialist Position is a Full Time Fixed-Term role ending on 30 September 2025  and may be renewable subject to funding availability and ongoing needs of the organisation. The position will operate from the Jhpiego South Africa Office in Pretoria.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain new and existing ETL processes to enable the acquisition of source data into the SDW.
• Ensure data integrity from source systems into the respective data marts in the SDW to ensure accurate report from SDW.
• Develop new functionality to support broader stakeholder business intelligence.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of business intelligence back-end processes to provide the foundation for data transformation, data cleansing and data quality improvements.
• Assist with data aggregation to optimize performance and improve end user experience.
• Support the collection, integration and transformation of large volumes of data with data structures ranging from simple to complex to process laboratory information.
• Utilize methods in the data integration environment that maximize speed, flexibility and performance when building, deploying and updating data warehouse objects.

Required Qualifications

• BSc Degree or Diploma in Information Systems and 2 years' experience year of data integration and data warehousing OR Matric and technical certificate(s) with 4 to 5 years of directly relevant experience
• SQL programming skills
• ETL development knowledge
• Excellent problem-solving skills to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve data integration issues and workflows promptly and accurately.
• Analytical skills to interpret data, identify trends, and make data-driven recommendations.
• Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with the ability to liaise with various teams, stakeholders, and clients, explain data issues in simple terms, and present findings clearly and concisely.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and deliverables.
• Attention to detail to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity across platforms and systems.
• Understanding of data privacy and security regulations to ensure compliance while handling sensitive information.
• Ability to work under pressure while manage multiple tasks

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Informatica PowerCenter an advantage
