JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Data Services Manager, plans and supervises the day-to-day activities of a team of database developers and analysts responsible for the development and support of the District data infrastructure including data collection, storage, and processing. Leads the delivery of data engineering solutions to stakeholders that support District initiatives. Establish team goals and lead developers through successful work products and timely completion. Manages scope and prioritization of work assignments, paying strong attention to deadlines. Act as a strong technical team leader, oriented toward achieving success through developing and supporting team members.

Manage team in the development of processes for ingestion of data from source systems, linkage of disparate datasets, transformation to analytical data models, quality checks and controls, and implementation of a variety of tools by which data can be queried and analyzed by users. Help to enforce data integrity and data quality measures.

Provide technical mentorship in areas such as ETL Process design and development, data architecture and modeling, data warehouse creation toolsets (Snowflake, Connected Intelligence, SSIS), structured query language development and information system data sources.

Derive and review functional requirements and designs. Ensure that designs are architecturally compliant, correspond to data management best practices and represent the best solution for the business need.

Act as Database Administrator for all on premise database servers including user management, security patches and upgrades, and external vendor system collaboration.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to align data solutions with District goals.

Support team members to resolve production data warehouse issues that impact enterprise reporting, as well as assist the team to resolve technical challenges.

Provide project oversight and direction to ensure overall success of assigned initiatives including project scope, deliverable and scheduling. Communicate with project management about status of work and any issues with work in progress.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The minimum prerequisites of formal education, professional work experience, certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, trainings, and other criteria that a candidate must fulfill to be considered for a position. It is essential that certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, and trainings are fulfilled, valid, and not expired.
- Criminal background check and fingerprinting required
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant data experience with K12 Student Information System and related Student Support Systems
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant data experience with state student assessments
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience working with enterprise data warehousing systems
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience with database administration
- Comprehensive knowledge of Data Warehousing/Mining, Data cleansing, data access technologies, and modern data architecture
- Advanced understanding of data collection/ ETL principles, practices and toolsets
- Advanced SQL skills including complex query building and query performance tuning
- Advanced knowledge of Snowflake Data Cloud solution
- Advanced understanding of reporting principles and practices
- Strong optimization and performance skills
- Advanced oral and written communication skills
- Advanced interpersonal relations skills
- Ability to exercise good judgment, problem solving ability, and resourcefulness in the absence of formalized guidelines
- Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve business issues through solution-oriented projects
- Ability to coordinate diverse administrative tasks requiring advanced organizational skills
- Ability to work efficiently under conditions of multiple deadlines and changing priorities

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Formal education, professional work experience, certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, trainings, and other qualifications relevant to the position that are strongly preferred but not mandatory for a candidate to be considered.
- Proven track record of working directly with business and technology partners to understand objectives and translate to data and BI solutions
- Proficiency with modern data visualization software, e.g., Tableau, PowerBI, etc.
- Experience in managing & leading a team
- Experience with PowerSchool
- Experience working in the public sector
- Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
