What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers competitive pay commensurate with education and experience.  New hires are typically brought into the organization between $68,000 - $88,000/annually, based on experience and education. Location & Schedule

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. In this position you can expect to work three (3) days in office. For your in-office days, you can expect to work at the Wellington Webb Municipal Building (201 W. Colfax Ave., CO 80202). Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.

The City and County of Denver’s Community Planning and Development Department (CPD) is responsible for visionary city planning and ensuring safe, responsible, sustainable building. CPD works with Denver’s communities to prepare land use plans, as well as regulations for land use and design, that guide the city’s growth, enhancement, and preservation. Our staff also reviews, permits, and inspects development applications to ensure that future construction meets the community-led regulations laid out in Denver's zoning codes as well as meets the rigorous standards of the city's building, fire, and energy codes. Denver's Community Planning and Development Department (CPD) is seeking an Associate Data Analyst. This position will support data-driven decision-making by collecting, cleaning, analyzing, and visualizing data to uncover insights, track performance, and improve business processes. This role works cross-functionally to translate business needs into actionable data solutions and maintain key reporting tools such as dashboards and performance metrics.

Specifically, as an Associate Data Analyst you will:

  • Collect, clean, and transform raw data from various sources using tools such as SQL and Excel to ensure accuracy, consistency, and usability for analysis

  • Develop and maintain interactive dashboards and performance reports using Power BI to support data transparency, business insights, and decision-making

  • Monitor and update key performance indicators (KPIs) to support ongoing operational reporting, identify data issues or trends, and propose relevant improvements or adjustments

  • Analyze datasets to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies, and communicate findings through visualizations, summaries, or presentations tailored to different audiences

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams and stakeholders to gather business requirements and translate them into actionable data solutions or technical documentation

  • Support project management activities by breaking down complex processes into clear, actionable steps and coordinating across departments to meet data-related objectives and timelines

  • Assist in the development of technical requirements or specifications based on business needs, working with developers, analysts, or system owners to ensure alignment and feasibility

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of data processes, documentation, and data governance practices to enhance data quality and analytical effectiveness

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Two (2) or more years of experience working with data analysis tools and software, including spreadsheets or statistical packages (e.g., Excel, SQL, R, Python), to organize, clean, analyze, and visualize data effectively

  • Analytical thinker with a demonstrated ability to break down complex problems, interpret data-driven insights, and apply logical reasoning to support strategic decision-making

  • Experience designing and producing clear, compelling visual representations of data and analysis

  • Proficiency with Power BI, Tableau, or other business intelligence and data visualization tools

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical audiences

  • Highly detail-oriented, with a focus on accuracy, completeness, and data quality

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Business Administration, or other related field.

  • Experience Requirement: Two (2) year of professional level experience with data extraction, data management and programming, and using data and reporting to answer audit questions.

  • Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for experience requirements.

  • License/Certifications: By position, requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.

  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
