Senior DevOps Engineer – Machine Learning Platform Focus

This role will join our Insights & Actions team as well as be an active member of our DevOps Guild: a lean, experienced team with direct stakeholders in engineering, data science, machine learning (ML), operations, SREs, security, compliance, etc. Our platform follows the goal of being cloud native with modern patterns, thoughtful selection of technology solutions, and a clear eye on security/privacy control considerations among multiple other sibling non-functional considerations. We aspire to provide efficient and reliable GitOps and automation. We are social beings that emphasize communication and collaboration through mechanisms like practice guilds, peer development, documenting our decisions and plans, and maintaining awareness of industry patterns and practices evolution.

What you'll do...

As a Senior DevOps Engineer supporting an ML-focused team, you will help deliver reliable pipelines and platforms to enable scalable ML model development, training, and deployment. As part of the guild, you are a member of a lean remote team of experienced polyglot engineers adept at software engineering, data engineering, and effective collaboration at a distance. You will be responsible for working directly with the Insights & Actions team that includes data scientists, and platform engineers to support automated, repeatable build and deploy of ML environments, workflows, models, and services. Your work will focus on provisioning compute on cloud using IaC, integrating with larger Progyny-wide patterns, assisting with the python library registry, logging patterns, and supporting CICD patterns.  Future growth opportunities may include optimizing model lifecycle management, automating validation and quality assurance for ML outputs, and supporting the effective team sport that is ML solutions engineering at Progyny.

About you...

• 7+ years in DevOps or MLOps roles for a moderate-to-large sized software or ML engineering organization

• Experience supporting ML teams or working in a data science/ML infrastructure environment is preferred

• 4+ years working with AWS (ex: VPC, IAM, S3, SageMaker, Bedrock, etc.)

• Demonstratable AWS knowledge securely connecting multiple accounts for data transfer

• Solid experience with IaC (Infrastructure as Code) models and Terraform/HCL conventions (control logic, patterns and composition, etc.)

• 5+ years GitOps automation on common SCM platforms (GitHub, GitLab)

• Deep experience with Git-flow and code branch management models & considerations (ex: trunk-based vs. feature-based)

• Experience supporting ML and data workflows in production (e.g., ML pipeline orchestration with Airflow, Dagster, Kubeflow, or similar); Kubernetes + Kubeflow is a plus

• Familiarity with ML model deployment techniques (e.g., model versioning, A/B testing, canary releases, online vs. batch inference)

• Proven experience integrating CI/CD with model training and validation workflows

• Familiarity with model registry solutions and metadata tracking (e.g., MLflow, SageMaker Model Registry)

• Proven experience with build and package management tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, NPM, Maven, PyPi, Conda)

• Demonstratable knowledge of authentication and authorization access patterns (ex: OIDC, common flows, etc.)

• Demonstratable networking knowledge (TCP stack, CIDRs, DNS, troubleshooting, etc.)

• Demonstratable security knowledge (PKI, restricted data, etc.) and integration to relevant source systems (authorization store, certificate managers, secrets managers, etc.)

• Demonstratable Linux and shell skills

• Demonstratable SCM skills

• Comfortability with Bash and Python

• Some experience working in a regulated business environment (ex: Healthcare) is a plus

In compliance with New York City's Wage Transparency Law, the annual salary [wage] range for NYC-based applicants is: $165,000 - $175,000. There are a variety of factors that go into determining a salary range, including but not limited to external market benchmark data, geographic location, and years of experience sought/required. Progyny offers a total compensation package comprised of base salary, cash bonus, and equity.
