The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the delivery of advanced data products, working closely with engineering teams to ensure scalable, secure, and high-performance data products that support our data strategy. This is a high-impact role, ideal for a proactive and technically strong leader with deep experience in cloud engineering, performance optimisation, agile delivery, and managing distributed teams.
What will you do in this role?
We are looking for a highly skilled Data Delivery Lead to help guide and support the delivery of key data products across our Azure-based modern data platform. This role is ideal for a technically hands-on leader with deep cloud engineering expertise and a passion for performance optimization. Working closely with both onshore and offshore engineering teams, the successful candidate will provide technical direction, ensure best practices, and help drive high-quality solutions. A key focus will be on leveraging Databricks Unity Catalog, to drive data governance and efficiency across the platform.
Key Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with engineering teams to guide the delivery of scalable, high-performance data solutions on Azure Databricks and ADF.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership across the Azure data ecosystem, with a particular focus on Databricks and Unity Catalog ensuring best practices around governance, security, and data lineage.
• Advise and support offshore and onshore development teams on cloud architecture, coding standards, performance tuning, and operational excellence.
• Help teams adopt and implement agile engineering practices and continuous delivery pipelines that support DevOps, CI/CD and Databricks Asset Bundle best practices.
• Ensure technical quality, governance, and compliance standards are consistently met.
• Drive performance optimization across data pipelines, models, and storage.
• Support the broader platform strategy and architectural evolution by contributing technical insights and feedback from delivery teams.
• Establish, monitor and maintain robust data quality frameworks by implementing validation rules and automated checks.

About You:

Required Skills & Experience:
• Proven track record of delivering large-scale data platforms using Azure Databricks.
• Extensive experience with Databricks, including Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, and performance optimization techniques.
• Demonstrable skills in data pipeline performance tuning, cost optimization, and cluster management in Databricks.
• Strong knowledge of data governance, access control, and metadata management.
• Experience working in regulated industries, particularly insurance or financial services, is highly desirable.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Agile delivery experience with a hands-on approach to problem solving and delivery leadership.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements, data solutions, data models and mapping documents.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Azure certifications (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect, Azure Data Engineer Professional).
• Experience integrating Databricks with enterprise tools (e.g., Profisee, Azure Purview, Power BI).
• Familiarity with modern data architecture patterns, including data mesh and lakehouse.
• In-depth understanding of the Lloyds of London insurance market, including syndicate operations, reporting standards and regulatory requirements.
Role Factors:
The position is full-time with remote work options, requiring in-office presence three days per week.
