At Samsung Austin Research and Development Center (SARC) and Advanced Computing Lab (ACL), we are building a center of excellence for Intellectual Property (IP) that is applied to high-performance computing devices (mobile, automotive, and other custom market segments) consumed by millions of people around the world. Come build with us!

Role and Responsibilities

We are looking for a talented GPU Architect to join our GPU HW System team, focusing on the development and optimization of graphics systems for mobile platforms. The ideal candidate will have a background in graphics programming and experience with game engines, GPU profiling tools, and data analysis. If you have a passion for pushing the boundaries of graphics performance and power efficiency, we want to hear from you!

  • You develop and optimize graphics systems for mobile platforms using OpenGL, Vulkan, DX11/12, or other relevant graphics APIs
  • You design, implement, and test graphics-related features and optimizations using C++ or Python
  • You collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and integrate graphics subsystems, including working with game engines such as Unreal Engine and Unity
  • You utilize GPU profiling tools (e.g., RenderDoc, PIX, AMD RGP, Nvidia Nsight) to analyze and optimize graphics performance, power consumption, and system-level interactions
  • You analyze and interpret data from various sources to inform design decisions, identify bottlenecks, and optimize system performance
  • You develop and maintain scripts and tools to automate testing, data collection, and analysis using languages like Python
  • You participate in the development of mobile platform-specific solutions, leveraging knowledge of Qualcomm, Apple, or Samsung mobile platforms
  • You stay up-to-date with the latest developments in graphics technology, including new APIs, tools, and methodologies

Skills and Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering/relevant technical field, or 3+ years of experience with a Master’s degree, or 1+ years of experience with a PhD.
  • 3+ years of experience in architecture, design and development of next generation GPUs for mobile platforms
  • Experience in graphics programming using OpenGL, Vulkan, DX11/12, or other relevant graphics APIs
  • Experience with game engines such as Unreal Engine or Unity
  • Proficient in programming/scripting languages (C++ or Python)
  • Familiarity with GPU profiling tools (e.g., RenderDoc, PIX, AMD RGP, Nvidia Nsight)
  • Solid data analysis skills, with the ability to collect, analyze, and interpret large datasets
  • Knowledge of computer architecture, parallel processing, and system-level interactions
  • Familiarity with other graphics-related technologies, such as ray tracing, AI-enhanced rendering, or virtual reality
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to debug complex issues and optimize system performance
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams

Our Team

We’re growing a team with talented individuals and diverse skillsets to build a technology roadmap and deliver market-leading GPU product. Our Xclipse GPU is the first mobile GPU with ray tracing technology that enables console-level graphic for Samsung Galaxy smartphones.

Being part of a unique growing team at a well-established global company means you have limitless room to explore, innovate, and grow by wearing different hats. Our GPU Architect team delivers whole system architecture-level design for Samsung’s current and next-generation mobile GPU. Depending on the functional discipline, they’re responsible for anywhere from early-stage architectural exploration, research work focusing on graphic and machine learning, defining new features, modeling, to diving into microarchitecture design and programming work.
