About the role and team
With thousands of active lots every day, hundreds of thousands of daily bids, millions of users, and billions of events, the Catawiki platform generates vast amounts of data every day. All this data is being collected and stored, and used extensively by our team of 19 data scientists and engineers that want to build a better company by using data in a smart way. At Catawiki, we believe in using data for making decisions, and the Data Science & Analytics team plays a central role in that.
We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist - Product Insights to work with our Product teams and leverage data to identify user journey opportunities and measure success of our product features and teams.
You will be part of the Data Science Product Insights Team helping us make sense of our data, finding actionable insights and creating self-service opportunities by combining data from multiple sources and working closely together with your colleagues in other departments.
In this role no two days will be the same: you will build dashboards, design and analyse A/B tests, uncover trends in user behaviour, collaborate with your Data colleagues on discovery for a new ML model, or enhance the reliability of our data pipelines. Whatever the task, youâll play a pivotal role in shaping Catawikiâs product solutions and deliver real impact.
What Youâll Do
- Own analytics for a broad product area â Unlike at larger companies where analytics roles are more specialized, at Catawiki, youâll take full ownership of a major part of the platform. This could mean leading analytics for all buyer-facing features, all seller-facing experiences, or everything related to fulfillment. Youâll build strong relationships with stakeholders and proactively identify opportunities by deeply understanding Catawikiâs user behavior.
- Turn data into insights and recommendations â Youâll go beyond tracking metricsâyouâll define and refine key success measures, uncover trends, and translate data into clear recommendations. Your insights will help shape Product decisions, flag opportunities, and drive the strategy forward. Through dashboards and reports, youâll make sure the right information is always at hand to guide the business.
- Leverage advanced analytics â Using techniques like regression analysis, causal inference, and A/B testing, youâll analyze user behavior, identify actionable insights, and evaluate the effectiveness of new features to ensure continuous improvement.
- Enable data-driven decision-making at scale â Youâll identify and implement self-service data solutions that empower Product teams to make informed decisions faster. Beyond Product analytics, youâll contribute to foundational data projects like building scalable data pipelines, improving data accessibility, and expanding our A/B Experimentation program.
Who You Are
- Experienced data leader â You have a strong quantitative background and 6+ years of experience in data science or analytics, ideally in an online company. Youâre comfortable owning complex projects and guiding teams in data-driven decision-making.
- Advanced technical skills â You're highly proficient in SQL and experienced in writing code to transform data into insights, whether in Python, R, or another language. You can handle large datasets, optimize data pipelines, and work with tools like Looker Studio, Tableau, Power BI, and data transformation tools like dbt or Dataform.
- Deep statistical expertise â You have a strong grasp of statistics and apply advanced techniques like regression analysis, causal inference, time series modeling, and hypothesis testing to extract meaningful insights and drive impact.
- Web and app analytics â You have extensive experience with tracking tools like Google Analytics (GA) and Google Tag Manager (GTM), and can design, implement, and validate measurement strategies.
- Experimentation and impact analysis â You have hands-on experience designing and evaluating A/B tests and other experiments, ensuring robust methodologies that lead to actionable insights.
- Strategic problem solver â You go beyond analyzing dataâyou proactively identify opportunities, define success metrics, and influence business and product strategy through data-driven recommendations.
- Strong communicator and mentor â You work effectively with leadership, engineers, and product teams, translating complex data insights into clear recommendations. You also enjoy mentoring junior data scientists and fostering a data-driven culture.
- Proactive and entrepreneurial mindset â You take ownership, solve problems autonomously, and drive initiatives forwardâeven when it means stepping outside your comfort zone.
