Solution Engineer – IoT & Data Engineering
New York, NY, US
Full Time Mid-level / Intermediate USD 130K - 160K
Description
Wiliot was founded by the team that invented one of the technologies at the heart of 5G. Their next vision was to develop an IoT sticker, a computing element that can power itself by harvesting radio frequency energy, bringing connectivity and intelligence to everyday products and packaging, things previously disconnected from the IoT. This revolutionary mixture of cloud and semiconductor technology is being used by some of the world’s largest consumer, retail, food, and pharmaceutical companies to change the way we make, distribute, sell, use, and recycle products.
Our investors include Softbank, Amazon, Alibaba, Verizon, NTT DoCoMo, Qualcomm, and PepsiCo.
Wiliot is seeking a Solution Engineer with dual expertise in IoT technologies and data engineering to design, build, and implement advanced solutions centered around Wiliot’s revolutionary battery-free Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) tags. This role bridges embedded IoT solutions with data pipelines and platforms, enabling real-time insights and scalable analytics. You will collaborate closely with engineering, product, and data teams to deliver intelligent, connected solutions from edge to cloud.
Responsibilities
- Analyze technical and business requirements to design scalable IoT and data pipeline architectures.
- Develop prototypes, proof-of-concepts (PoCs), and technical demonstrations integrating IoT devices and data backends.
- Implement robust data engineering workflows for ingestion, processing, transformation, and storage of IoT-generated data.
- Build and maintain data pipelines using tools such as Spark, Kafka, or cloud-native services.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deploy IoT-enabled systems and ensure data is accessible and usable across analytics platforms.
- Conduct system integration, validation, and performance optimization of IoT devices and associated data infrastructure.
- Document detailed technical specifications, data flow diagrams, and system architecture blueprints.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues in connectivity, data quality, pipeline performance, and system reliability.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 4+ years of Hands-on experience with IoT components: sensors, edge devices, gateways, communication protocols (e.g., BLE, MQTT), and system integration.
- Proficiency with data engineering tools and platforms (e.g., Apache Spark, Kafka, Airflow, or cloud-native equivalents).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure, including IoT and data services.
- Solid understanding of data modeling, ETL/ELT pipelines, and structured/unstructured data processing.
- Strong technical writing and solution design documentation skills.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration capabilities.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in data security, networking, or real-time analytics in an IoT context.
- Exposure to time-series databases and data lakes (e.g., InfluxDB, Snowflake, BigQuery).
- Background in machine learning pipeline integration or IoT-based analytics applications
The salary range for this position is $130,000 – $160,000 annually.
Pay is based on several factors, including market location, and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
