Asda is undergoing an exciting data transformation, placing insight and analytics at the heart of strategic decision-making. We are seeking a Senior Manager Insight and Analytics to lead high-impact, technically rich initiatives that deliver real business value across our commercial, customer, supply chain, and digital functions.
In this role you will lead the analyst stream, ensuring the team has strong technical skills, consistent methodologies, and clear development pathways. Supports Chief Data Scientist (CDS) in resource allocation and capability building. Is likely the lead on delivering one or more high profile and/or complex priority projects, working alongside squad SMs. You will shape and deliver advanced analytics, and visual insights that influence decisions at every level of the organisation.
You’ll be working in a hybrid cloud environment (Azure, Databricks), applying your skills to real challenges in areas like customer behaviour, operations, and digital journeys. You will also mentor and manage a team of talented data professionals, helping to grow our analytical capabilities and foster a high-performance culture.
What You'll Love:
- Team Leadership and Capability Development:
Establish and embed disciplines, practices and patterns that continuously improve analytics and data science ways of working & standards.
Provide quality assurance and peer review for insight and analysis initiatives.
Support analysts in developing their technical skills.
Ensure high-quality, consistent analytical approaches across squads.
Stay up to date with industry trends and drive innovation in analytics techniques.
Manage recruitment, training, and career progression of analysts.
- Stakeholder Collaboration:
Act as an evangelist for the benefits of a data driven approach. Build trusted peer-to-peer relationships with the Asda executive team.
Define and develop ASDA’s advanced analytics capabilities roadmap, providing technical thought leadership that will allow the ASDA leadership team to make well researched business decisions.
Work with business and process teams to strive for higher quality data and strategic view of data as an asset.
- Strategic Contribution:
Lead the analytics problem solving and insight generation in support of business partners assigned to up to five identified I&A verticals.
Support and co-develop ASDA’s insight and analytics strategy across disciplines including, but not limited to; advanced analytics, measurement and forecasting
Apply advanced analytics thinking across a variety of business domains, including; price, promotions, ranging, space, display, supply chain, customer insights & segmentation.
Design, develop, implement and maintain scalable analytical solutions.
What You'll Need:
Essential:
- At least 5+ years working in a Data & Analytics leadership role for and omnichannel Food, Grocery or associated retailer with a similar scale to ASDA.
- Proven track record of harnessing analytics initiatives that have delivered fundamental sales value to a retail organisation of scale.
- Ability to lead a team of 10-20 analytics professionals to understand business challenges, design and implement data products and solutions for both operational and analytical purposes.
- Track record of building scalable, reliable analytical solutions that can drive demonstrable business benefit.
- Track record of leading the development of analytics patterns and processes and will bring in demonstrable experience across agile delivery leadership including technical mentoring and peer review.
- Ability to think creatively and critically and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and sometimes ambiguous work environment.
- Proven experience in data science, advanced analytics, or data engineering, with a track record of delivering measurable outcomes.
- Proficiency in Databricks, Azure, SQL, and data visualisation using open source libraries.
- Excellent communication skills — able to simplify technical concepts for varied audiences.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a focus on value creation over analysis for its own sake.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, either through line management or team/project leadership.
- A degree in a numerate discipline (e.g., Maths, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering).
