Research Scientist– Microscopy (m/f/*)

As a Research Scientist focusing on Electron, Optical Microscopy and imaging techniques, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world.

Here, you will make an impact by:

• Leading research activities in electron microscopy, optical, x-ray microtomography, laser confocal and related imaging techniques to characterize a wide variety of material sets
• Advancing new technology development and test methodology around materials and structure characterization
• Collaborating with a team of chemists, physicists and engineers on both theoretical and practical projects that will use his/her scientific, mathematical and computational skills to drive new-to-the-world technology development and introduction
• Developing state-of-the-art techniques and test methods

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who meet following minimum requirements:

• Master’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
• Electron microscopy experience in a private or public research environment
• Substantial hands-on experience of sample preparation for electron, optical, x-ray microtomography, confocal laser microscopy characterization of polymer, composite, and metallic systems in an academic, industrial or national laboratory environment 
• Extensive experience with software related to electron and optical microscopy image and data analysis
• Fluency in German and English

Additional knowledge / nice-to-have skills / preferred qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

• PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution
• Advanced data science skills, including python coding
• Interest and ability to make connections between science/technology and real-world concerns
• Demonstrated scientific excellence as evidenced by publications or presentations
