As an Associate Data Engineer, you will be responsible for basic designs and the development and delivery of data solutions between operational systems and databases, Data Warehouse, downstream Data Marts as well as files. You will implement optimized designs to meet the operational performance requirements for our solutions and products, which may include the implementation of architecture, following development standards.
The fundamentals for the job…
- Actively participate in the design, development and delivery of solutions using modern technologies, which will be used to move and transform as needed, large amounts of data from multiple sources into multiple destinations.
- Perform peer code reviews and make recommendations.
- Challenge and express your opinion of existing solutions and find “Better Ways” that will result in quality, improved and scalable solutions.
- Participate in development and execution of unit and system test plans.
- Translate complex business requirements into technical solutions.
- Understand, interpret, and translate business requirements into technical specs.
- Guide and drive colleagues at the technical level.
- Serve as data engineering support, maintenance and escalation point for data exchange and data warehouse related services and incidents.
- Align with technical teams on suitable technical, application, or configuration solutions to incoming incidents and issues.
- Maintain frequent communication with peers and IT teams to maintain awareness of issues or changing processes.
- Understand the business implications of technical solutions and assist in defining and documenting technological solutions.
- Escalates and collaborates in major incidents with teams in: Technical Areas, Issue Management, Client Services, Operations, among others.
- Challenge and express your opinion of existing solutions and find “Better Ways” that will result in quality, improved and scalable solutions.
- Ensure ticket and work item documentation remains current, correct, and relevant including updates to users on status, user-provided input, investigation results, next steps, and estimated delivery time (ETAs) for resolutions.
- Maintain high operational and written standards throughout ticket documentation and management.
- Coordinate, and at times, lead meetings when needed for issue resolution.
- Identify repetitive open known issues for their centralization in a single work item and escalations to development cells for enhancements and bug fixes.
- Participate in appropriate continuing education, committee, and meetings as may be requested or required by their immediate supervisor.
What we expect of you
The bold requirements…
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Technology, or related field. (In lieu of a degree, equivalent relevant work experience may be considered.)
- 1+ years of hands-on expertise designing high volume repeatable ETL/ELT processes in a Large Data Volume environment and developing complex data transformations.
- 1+ years of experience in database development, data modeling, and query optimization.
- Experience with data warehouse and ETL/ELT concepts such as: dimensions and fact tables, loading and staging environments, database normalization levels and design patterns schema types.
- Experience with structured query language (ANSI-SQL, T-SQL or PL/SQL) and relational database management systems.
- Experience working with any major RDMS such as MSSQL, Oracle, Postgres, MySQL, etc.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Products such as PowerBI, Excel, PowerPoint, and WordDoc.
- Experience with scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, or Shell for task automation
- Experience using customer service skills to deliver quality and satisfactory service to internal and external clients using tech platforms.
- Experience in using analytical skills and root cause analysis regarding technological solutions, issues, incidents, and problems.
- Ability to work rotating or irregular shifts, including weekends and certain holidays, per business or operational needs.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- We are proud to offer a flexible hybrid work model which will require certain on-site workdays (Puerto Rico Location Only)
- This position requires availability to work in pacific time zone or working schedule 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM
- This position may require availability for on-call hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to promptly address emergent issues or provide necessary support as dictated by operational demands (if applicable).
Nice to haves…
- Experience working Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) databases such as Azure Synapse, RedShift, SAP HANA and/or experience with Snowflake.
- Experience programming, data warehouse and ETL/ELT concepts such as stars and snowflake schema, Slowly Changing Dimensions (SCD) types, late arriving dimensions (LAD), junk dimensions, EDI standards, X12, ETL pipelines, deduplication, Data Lake, SDLC, Agile, Scrum and Kanban.
- Exposure to job scheduling/orchestration platforms (e.g., Stonebranch, UC4, Airflow, or Control-M).
- Coding experience in development languages and frameworks such as Java, C#, .NET Core, JDK and JavaScript.
- Experience with ETL and data tools such as: SSIS, dbt, Matillion, Azure Data Factory, Informatica, Talend, Hadoop, Pentaho and AWS Glue.
- Experience in the healthcare industry and familiarity with its terminology.
Physical requirements…
- Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
