Nokia
As a technology leader across mobile, fixed and cloud networks, our solutions enable a more productive, sustainable and inclusive world.Join us in advancing the field of spatial computing—developing systems that perceive, map, and interact with the physical world in real time. Our work focuses on enabling machines and infrastructure to localize, reason about, and respond to their surroundings with spatial awareness and contextual intelligence.
You’ll work alongside developers, research scientists, and domain experts in one of Nokia Bell Labs' core research groups, where close collaboration across disciplines is central to translating foundational research into practical systems.
Nokia Bell Labs has a long legacy of foundational contributions to science and technology. Today, we are building on that legacy to drive progress in AI-powered spatial intelligence and industrial systems—supporting applications in automation, XR, robotics, and digital twins.
We are seeking researchers with a strong background in spatial intelligence to help develop and apply novel methods in localization, 3D perception, scene understanding, and embodied AI. This role focuses on bridging state-of-the-art research with deployable solutions for industrial, enterprise, and societal-scale use cases.
As a researcher in this domain, you will work closely with Bell Labs researchers on advanced technologies in:
- Real-time localization and tracking
- 3D reconstruction of physical environments
- Spatial computing, perception, and scene understanding
- Intelligent and context-aware immersive systems
- Computational efficiency and edge intelligence
- Natural interaction in mixed reality
Your role will include:
- Designing, implementing, testing, and deploying research-grade prototypes that integrate spatial computing techniques with metaverse infrastructure
- Collaborating across disciplines to translate novel algorithms and methods into robust, scalable components
- Creating patents and scientific publications
- Contributing to the full lifecycle of research-to-product development, from experimentation to proof-of-concept systems
- Managing timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder alignment in a fast-paced, innovation-driven setting
You might be a great fit if you have:
- PhD degree in Computer Science, Spatial Computing, Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, or a related field, or you are nearing the completion of your doctoral program, having reached an advanced stage in your research and academic requirements
- Solid theoretical foundations in the field of AI/ML technologies
- Hands-on experience in architecting deep neural networks, from selection to building, training testing/debugging, awareness of the latest developments in the area
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas: computer vision, SLAM/6DoF localization, 3D modeling or reconstruction, reality capture, or XR systems
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, C++, JavaScript, C#, Go)
- A creative and curious mindset with the ability to work on open-ended problems in an evolving technological landscape
Additional strengths we value
- Experience with end-to-end AI/ML pipeline: data processing, model training (PyTorch, Tensorflow), containerization (Docker), and deployment
- Familiarity with AIOps tools (e.g., Kubeflow, K8s) for scalable AI system management
- Proven contributions to open-source projects, academic publications, or patents
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical topics to diverse audiences
- A passion for advancing inclusive, human-centered technology
