Come build the core of Microsoft Copilot for enterprise with the Microsoft Turing Team, joining a diverse group of engineers and applied scientists to improve, maintain and scale the platform powering all of Microsoft’s industry-leading, AI-powered experiences.


The Microsoft Turing team is an innovative research and engineering team working on state-of-the-art deep learning models to power end user experiences across the company. Applied scientists and software engineers in the Turing team work together to push the boundaries of large-scale deep learning models on the Microsoft 365 Core world-class distributed training infrastructure.

As a Software Developer II in the Turing team, you will leverage your skills and experience to help build the platform that powers enterprise Microsoft’s Copilots. You will work closely with applied scientists and engineers on building and designing both backend platform capabilities as well as core copilot scenarios aimed at delighting our customers. You will be responsible for building scalable, performant, and cutting-edge features. This involves defining the architecture, implementation plan, ensuring everything is tested and robust, and improving processes to contribute to our best practices.

Responsibilities

Design
  • Contributes to the architecture of features related to data science and machine learning and tests design hypotheses.

  • Helps ensure solution area has good test coverage and integrates automation features when planning for testing.

Implementation

 

  • Conducts and creates experimentation to determine the effectiveness of changes for prototyping and testing features.

  • Reviews work items with stakeholders to deepen knowledge of product features and executes project plans.

  • Supports efforts to apply debugging tools and examines logs, telemetry, and other methods to verify assumptions proactively and reactively.

Reliability and Supportability

 

  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) to monitor system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.

  • Identifies areas to integrate instrumentation for gathering telemetry data on system behavior such as performance, reliability, availability, usage, and safety mechanisms.

  • Maintains operations of live services as issues arise on a rotational, on-call basis, identifying solutions and mitigations to issues impacting performance or functionality.

Engineering Excellence

  • Builds knowledge, shares new ideas, and fills gaps in engineering tools to improve software developer tools.

  • Develops higher-level awareness of other kinds of tools outside areas of expertise.

  • Remains current in skills by staying abreast of developments to improve product availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:


Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
    • OR related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
