Lab Systems & Data Analysis Co-op Student

Trillium Health Partners is seeking a biology or life sciences student for a co-op position focused on lab data management, archiving, and automation to support our clinical applications team.

You will play a key role in organizing lab data, improving archiving processes, and assisting with analysis tools to enhance efficiency in our diagnostic labs. Working with lab SMEs and IT teams, you’ll contribute to projects that directly impact data accessibility, reporting accuracy, and system reliability. This is a great opportunity to apply your biology background to real-world lab challenges while developing skills in data science, automation, and lab informatics.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Assisting in managing and archiving lab data (e.g., test results, specimen records) to ensure compliance and easy retrieval.
  • Supporting automation of repetitive tasks (e.g., data entry, file organization) using scripting tools (e.g., Python, Excel macros).
  • Helping maintain and troubleshoot lab information systems (LIS/LIMS) and databases.
  • Collaborating with lab staff to optimize data workflows and reduce manual errors.
  • Contributing to data analysis projects, such as trend reporting or quality control checks.
  • Documenting procedures for data handling, storage, and backup to meet lab standards.
  • Potentially assisting with integrating lab instruments with digital systems for seamless data flow.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Currently enrolled in a Biology, Life Sciences, or related program (e.g., Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences).
  • Interest in lab operations, data management, or computational biology.
  • Basic familiarity with Office tools (e.g., Excel) or willingness to learn.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail (critical for archiving and accuracy!).
  • Ability to explain technical tasks to non-technical lab teams.
  • Curiosity about automation, AI, or machine learning in biology (a plus, but not required).

Preference will be given to the following:

  • Experience with lab software.
  • Coursework or projects involving data analysis, statistics, or bioinformatics.
  • Exposure to AI-assisted tools for biology (e.g., image analysis, pattern recognition).
