What you'll do…

The Electrified Systems Engineering (ESE) organization is responsible for delivering the best fuel economy and refined Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid and Battery Electric vehicles in every segment in which we compete. Consistently delivering the best customer vehicle value and profitability while delivering these objectives with performance and smoothness of operation that exceeds our customer's expectations. Take advantage of this opportunity to work in one of the most dynamic and growing organizations in Ford. Your duties will include:

  • Develop, implement and maintain battery plant and controller models
  • Develop models and estimation algorithms of key cell battery parameters 
  • Develop controls to improve battery performance, reliability and life, as well as control mitigation actions for the same
  • Develop battery cell diagnostics and prognostics solutions using connected vehicle data and analytical techniques to detect weak or abnormal cell signatures indicating quality or durability issues 
  • Validate models and control algorithm designs using desktop simulations and cell, pack, vehicle and/or connected vehicle data
  • Develop requirements to implement HV Battery features onboard and/or cloud Battery Monitoring System (BMS) 
  • Develop both physical and analytical validation methods for onboard and/or cloud BMS battery control functions 
  • Work closely with the embedded software development team HV Battery Controls, Vehicle Analytics (Big data), Battery Cell Integration, Battery Cell Applications to lead the rollout new features onto onboard production BMS and/or cloud. 

You'll have…

  • Master’s degree in engineering
  • 5+ years of academic or industry experience in batteries and battery systems, especially of the type used in vehicle Electrification. 
  • 5+ years of academic or industry experience in Control Systems, especially state estimation theory
  • 5+ years of academic or industry experience developing and implementing simulations of battery performance and degradation
  • 5+ years of academic or industry experience using MATLAB/ Simulink/ State flow, C++ for battery simulation and control system design
  • 2+ years of industry experience with Battery Monitoring System (BMS)

 

Even better, you may have…

  • PhD degree in Engineering
  • 5+ years engineering experience in battery or powertrain system design, usage, controls, and testing for electrified vehicles
  • Deep understanding of battery aging mechanisms, failure modes, durability
  • Experience with HV battery controls embedded software development
  • Fluency in computational languages (e.g. Python, C++, etc.)
  • Demonstrated Experience with post-processing battery cell, pack and vehicle data using AVL Concerto, ATI Vision, INCA, Canalyzer or similar programs
  • Experience with machine learning algorithm design. Experience with AI/ML hybrid approaches for battery internal degradation states diagnostics/prognostics
  • Experience with lab-scale battery cell fabrication and electrochemical characterization methods
  • Excellent data analysis and interpretation capabilities 
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks

This position is a range of salary grades 7-8 .
