Role Responsibilities

  • You will be closely working with our Market Analysts, Traders and Originators in a commercially competitive and fast-paced trading floor environment.
  • Monitor and interpret weather data from various sources to provide accurate and timely weather forecasts.
  • Build up databases containing meteorological parameters and historical forecasts for model back testing and detailed analysis.
  • Keep up to date with latest developments in academic research, weather forecasting technology and vendor products.
  • You are a dedicated team player with good communications skills. Meteorologists and markets start early in the morning, so do you.
  • You are based at our headquarters in Essen, Germany. However, partially working from home is an option in accordance to E.On’s working policies. You are happy to travel to and working from our trading floors / offices in other European countries from time to time.

 

Role qualifications 

  • Working experience of numerical weather forecast prediction models and synoptic forecasting techniques.
  • Working experience of the fundamental principles of weather/climate models and respective data formats, ideally developing models or being part of a model developing/operating research team.
  • Ideally working experience in synoptic weather forecast (in renewables, aviation, civil services or the private sector).
  • Good understanding of climate indices, teleconnections and sub-seasonal to seasonal weather and climate projections.
  • Time series analysis and multivariate statistics are tools that you are used to and familiar with.
  • Python is your second language. MatLab and MS Office applications have been part of your working/educational career.
  • Experience in European, US or Global (Renewable) energy markets, commodity trading and/or agricultural commodities is welcomed, but is not mandatory.
  • Degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric or Climate Sciences
  • Ability to work occasionally on bank holidays or weekends
  • Fluent in English
