Position Summary:
This position will focus on developing robotics and cyber physical systems solutions, using machine learning and artificial intelligence, to support different aspects of marine science, with opportunities to expand to other areas.
This is a 12-month, non-tenure-accruing position, available in the Systems and Imaging Laboratory (SAIL) at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute/Florida Atlantic University.
Currently, SAIL is conducting multiple projects ranging from Hybrid Aerial Underwater Robotic System (HAUCS) – a cyber physical system (CPS) for aquaculture, to sensors and platforms for maritime applications. The Postdoc’s primary task will be to lead the development of algorithm, software, and hardware to extend the current HAUCS framework.
This includes developing the sensors, sensing robotic platform, environmental prediction model, and visualization tool as needed. The tasks will also include field experiments to test the instruments and validate models; preparing data reports and presentations for technical conferences; publishing results in peer-reviewed journals; and mentoring students in the lab. There will also be opportunities to work on other related projects, include the application of AI to solve underwater vision problems. The Postdoc will also be able to grow his/her skills in research, grant writing, and mentoring junior scientists.

Minimum Qualifications:
- A doctorate in electrical engineering, computer science, engineering, or related area.- A team player who is willing to train junior scientists in the lab.
- Familiarity with AI and robotics. Comprehension of common machine learning algorithms, data mining, image analysis, etc.
- Familiarity with conducting analysis of large datasets using Python, Matlab, or other programming languages
- Experience with embedded system, particularly IoT sensor development.
- Experience with optical sensor development preferred.
- Independent, self-motivated, well-organized, and critical thinker
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
