The mission of the »Modelling and Artificial Intelligence« department is to optimize processes, components and systems, including their reliability and resource efficiency during production and operation.

What you will do
- Design, implement, and optimize database schemas for high-performance systems with large data inflows, ensuring scalability and robustness
- Write efficient, complex SQL queries and leverage advanced database technologies such as TimescaleDB to support real-time data processing
- Develop and maintain Python and Django-based tools and scripts to support data processing, ETL pipelines, and database operations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyse data requirements, troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, and implement solutions
- Continuously improve database performance through indexing, partitioning, and query optimization techniques
- Conception, Implementation and iterative improvement of data visualization solutions
What you bring to the table
- Student in the field of Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering or another related degree program with a scientific or engineering focus at the FAU in Erlangen
- Strong proficiency in Python and Django, with experience building data-focused applications or tools
- Proven experience working with relational and time-series databases, including schema design and optimization
- Expertise in writing efficient, scalable SQL queries and working with high data inflow systems
- Familiarity with TimescaleDB or other high-performance database technologies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on performance optimization
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of visualization tools and libraries like D3.js, Chart.js, Graphana

The position is initially limited to one year.
Your weekly working hours will be agreed by arrangement. You can determine your working days flexibly.
