Temporary Fermentation Modeling (Part-time/20 hours per week)

This part0time position will work with the Director of Data Science, developing mechanistic models of fermentation using a framework such as systems of ordinary differential equations (ODEs), in order to understand and predict fermentation behavior.
A successful candidate will be self-driven and capable of working in a fast-paced environment. Excellent technical and communication skills are required, along with an ability to creatively and flexibly develop solutions to novel problems. Ideally, candidates will also have domain expertise in biotechnology, synthetic biology, or a related relevant field.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design fermentation process mechanistic models, incorporating:
- Substrate consumption
- Accumulation of cell mass, product, and other compounds
- Inhibitory effects on cell growth and product formation
- Fit models to data collected from laboratory-scale experiments
- Validate models on held-out tank data, pilot, and manufacturing data
- Prepare deliverables:
o Reports on project’s findings
o Well-documented code enabling Antheia to recapitulate the modeling process
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE - Advanced quantitative background in modeling dynamic systems:
- Fourth-year graduate student in Ph.D. program or above, with relevant research specialization
- Or, bachelor’s degree plus five or more years relevant work experience
- Ideally, experience specifically modeling fermentations or other biological systems
- Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, R) and experience working with large biological datasets
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment
- Experience or knowledge in biology is a plus. Experience in synthetic biology or biotechnology is a strong plu
This is a remote part-time temporary position which requires 20 hours/week of work.
Must be available to meet during U.S. working hours.
