Sony Interactive Entertainment (PlayStation) has an exciting career opportunity! We are looking for a creative, diligent Senior Manager in Software Development Engineer in Test who will be responsible for leading quality engineering teams.

As Senior Manager, SDET you will lead a group of dedicated managers, SQEs and SDETs establish standards for product quality on Mobile, PC and PS5 Console. You will help us improve how we deliver projects. You will collaborate and coordinate across our global Quality Engineering organization. This role also includes collaborate with game studios and game publishers. Join us to be a part of an exceptionally dedicated team committed to delivering world-class entertainment experiences. This is a hybrid role with some opportunities for travel.

Leadership

  • Experience in a senior management role, with a track record of leading successful teams and projects
  • Lead and grow a team of diverse managers, SDETs and SQEs.
  • Coach and mentor your team to continue developing their skills and expertise
  • Establish a collaborative work environment that encourages trust, autonomy, and innovation
  • Develop strategic roadmaps and resource plans to efficiently implement ambitious projects
  • Strong leadership and project management skills, capable of encouraging and motivating teams to achieve ambitious goals

Software Development Quality Engineer Process

  • Define test plan, create document, and drive adoption of project management and quality engineering processes that ensure efficient execution and scalability
  • Collaborate with multi-functional leadership to facilitate sophisticated quality engineering work and drive technical alignment across a large, distributed team
  • Handle dependencies between multiple key programs across the product development portfolio
  • Proactively identify and document project risks, issues, and dependencies, assess impact, and propose mitigation strategies
  • Outstanding problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to quickly identify and implement effective solutions
  • Experience with game developers and game studios is a plus
  • Passionate about Quality through automation, data and KPIs and strive to improve processes, generate new standards, and drive their usage within the teams.
  • Research and craft new tools for overcoming inefficient processes by automating work.

Technical Qualifications

  • 5+ years in an engineering people manager role.
  • 5+ years of professional programming experience.
  • 3+ years of hands-on work on network services, deep understanding on microservices, back-end pipelines.
  • 2+ years of hands-on work on PC software development testing.
  • A solid understanding of the software development lifecycle, and applying proven software methodologies to testing and driving reductions in technical debt.
  • Experienced in building and running complex highly scalable software systems testing.
  • Significant experience with software engineering practices, software automation and testing systems (for example, Jenkins).
  • Experience managing, coaching, and mentoring engineers or technical developers through at least one full production cycle
  • Proficiency in Python, JavaScript or any other Programming Language, confidence to provide guidance to junior engineers in code review.
  • Practical experience in using development and deployment tools: Git, Jenkins, Docker etc.
  • Experience with Selenium or Appium and advanced UI automation for web/mobile applications
  • Robust understanding of computer and software architecture
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

Skills and Characteristics

  • Proficient in written and verbal communication, with excellent presentation skills.
  • Ability to present technical information in a clear and concise manner to executives and non-technical leaders
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate problems in advance and tackle them rather than responding to them afterwards.
  • Creative and ambitious leader who embraces change and has a desire to continually improve
  • Proficient at nurturing relationships with colleagues at all organizational tiers
  • Experience recruiting software engineering talent.

Nice to Have

The following technical qualifications are a plus (but not required):

  • Past experience with cloud computing and containerization (Docker).
  • JavaScript (especially with React Native), Java, C++.
  • Machine learning, Game development, Mobile and PC app development background.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.$220,000—$330,000 USD
