The role:
Responsible for leading business readiness and change management delivery of strategic and operational initiatives supporting effectiveness of Global AML Operations (GAMLO). Provide thought leadership to drive strategic change, employee engagement, and partner with operations leadership team in the identification of appropriate plans in support of the business strategy and in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures. Act as the central point of contact with internal and external partners on implementations, sustainment and issues impacting day-to-day execution to ensure requirements and priorities are cohesively represented and well planned.
Is this role right for you? In this role you will:
- Collaborate on the development of key business strategies, prioritize of strategic initiatives, and participate and/or lead initiatives designed to support operations. Provides strategic direction, leadership, and support for Global Regulatory Operations & Internal Controls (GROIC) units (covering all Business Lines) ensuring activities and recommendations comply with relevant regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
- Lead in supporting the development of content for key presentations and business sessions. Oversee audit and testing issues to ensure resolution and timelines are met and visibility provided to leadership on progress.
- Sustain and evolve change management framework supporting operational impacts to all teams and provide strategic direction on initiatives within GAMLO including the development of short-and long-term strategies to drive scalability.
- Lead stakeholder discussions and provide updates on key program performance to stakeholders and executives, leveraging superior communication and problem resolution skills to guide discussions, as required.
- Ensure advancement of strategic priorities and engagement initiatives and report on progress against key objectives and metrics. Stand up regular meetings with all stakeholders to communicate key information and ensure alignment and business readiness.
- Conduct impact and gap analyses on projects, consolidating stakeholder input from various business partners. Provide problem resolution and identify priorities on behalf of the unit, effectively communicating to internal and external partners, as requested.
- Drive design, delivery and sustainment of procedures and training curriculum across GROIC programs and FIU that facilitates employee skills development and strengthens risk mindset in AML. Receive policy, regulatory, and program changes from the enterprise and ensuring appropriate change management and implementation disciplines, including managing policy and program queries from AML Operations.
- Oversee and manage the Client Life Cycle Management (CLCM) Working Group and Steer Co committees, including agenda topics, presentations, stakeholder alignment, meeting minutes, RAID logs, and follow-up activities.
- Manage and sustain governance documentation, including the Operating Performance Commitments (OPCs), RCSAs, EMRAs/ASRAs, and Master Service Level Agreements between GROIC and Business Lines.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with business partners through the provision of expert advice and support. Develop and maintain a solid network with expert individuals who can assist in achieving business goals. Collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to support the achievement of deliverables and overall objectives.
- Effectively manage requests and concerns from internal partners, including on applications and tools leveraged in AML Operations processes. Continuously monitor operations to ensure risks that arise from people, inadequate or failed process and systems are identified and appropriately prioritized.
- Proactively identify opportunities to contribute to the enhancement of end-to-end processes and operations impacting the Unit’s ability to meets its mandate. Develop and enhance protocols to ensure risk is appropriately managed and procedures are aligned to applicable policies.
- Maintain a superior knowledge and understanding of the Bank’s policies and internal procedures. Lead unit planning and strategy discussions to achieve unit business objectives. Lead and drive a client focused culture throughout the team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge. Direct the day-to-day operations of the team while promoting the right risk behaviors.
- Build and drive a high- performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors; communicating vision/values/business strategy; and managing succession and development planning for the team.
- Operate within the Bank’s risk appetite and conduct business and interactions with customers, employees, suppliers, and others in a legal and ethical manner that promotes integrity across the Bank. Escalate any concerns regarding conduct risk or a deficiency in internal controls, policies, or procedures.
- Create an environment in which the team pursues effective and efficient operations in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have:
- Post-secondary education with a minimum of 10 years of experience in AML, compliance, and/or audit in a financial institution.
- Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist, Certified Financial Crime Specialist or equivalent designation is an asset.
- Solid knowledge of local and major international AML/ATF regulations and regulatory reporting framework.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement successful strategy.
- Demonstrated ability to interact and engage with management and executive level stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to lead large, specialized teams.
- Demonstrated ability to identify, manage, and escalate conduct, operational, and customer risk appropriately.
- Demonstrated ability to influence internal partners in order to obtain required documentation and information.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong cross-functional business relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to drive operational efficiency without compromising requirements.
- Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills with solid organization and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and communicate unit strategy.
- Spanish speaking ability an asset.
