Are you ready to make a significant impact in the energy sector? Shell Energy Australia is seeking a talented Data Scientist to join our dynamic team in Melbourne. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing and maintaining cutting-edge data science products that align with our strategic goals, enhance operational efficiency, and drive business growth.

You will collaborate with various internal departments to tackle diverse challenges, including customer segmentation, churn prediction, load behaviour analysis and forecasting, demand response analysis, and energy optimisation. Embracing the DevOps model, you will not only innovate new features with a focus on ongoing support and maintenance but also actively engage in product support and technical debt remediation to ensure the delivery of high-quality products and services.

With respect, integrity and honesty, responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to leverage company data for business solutions and drive commercial outcomes through data extraction, visual insights, and machine learning models.

  • Conduct data mining and deep dive analysis to provide customer insights and recommend optimal solutions.

  • Use SQL and Python to work with large data sets to generate meaningful insights and recommendations.

  • Write code to build Machine Learning model with a focus on delivering business value.

  • Support knowledge sharing and upskilling within the business, assisting with data-related technical issues and infrastructure needs.

  • Ensure operational support of data products, contribute to data science / ML solutions, and maintain technical documentation while staying current with emerging trends and best practices.

Here’s what you’ll need to thrive in this role:

  • Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of statistical and predictive modelling concepts, machine-learning approaches, clustering, classification and regression techniques, and optimisation algorithms.

  • Programming Skills: Proficiency in Python and data science related libraries (Pandas, Scikit-Learn, Plotly, and Matplotlib). Strong coding skills are essential as we operate in a code-heavy environment.

  • Experience: Proven expertise in developing data science and ML/AI products, with commercial experience.

  • Agile Development: Experience in Agile software development, work effort estimation, version control (Git), and cloud platforms.

  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
