CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS:  As part of Young’s Data Team, the BI Engineer & Developer is responsible for developing and designing models and dashboard reporting to support enterprise-wide decision making.  The BI Engineer & Developer reports to the Director of Data Analytics, works closely with internal data analysts for report delivery, and the data architect for database administration and support. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

  • Build high-performance analytic tools and models that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, customer loyalty, cross-selling, up-selling, and other strategic and tactical sales and marketing programs.  Build prototypes as necessary and iterate with team. 
  • Develop set processes for data mining, data modeling, and data production.
  • Work with Data Engineer to source and transform large, complex data sets into structured data for reporting that meets functional business requirements. 
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements, automate manual processes, optimize data delivery, and redesign as needed for greater scalability.  Review and recommend opportunities to improve data reliability and quality.
  • Build infrastructure required for optimal ETL processes (extract-transform-load) from a wide variety of data sources.  Provide structures to cleanse data and automate the ingestion into the architecture.
  • Research and incorporate (as appropriate) new and cutting-edge data management and engineering technologies or methodologies into existing data models and reporting.
  • Work with stakeholders including executive, commercial, product, operations and data teams to deliver data in a way that drives decision-making to benefit the business.
  • Work with data and analytics experts and data architect to strive for greater functionality in Young’s data systems.
  • Research and develop AI-driven analytics to automate reporting and enhance predictive insights, including piloting ML-based projects and trend analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise data governance policies, including security and access controls.
  • Implement role-based access controls (RBAC) and enforce data lineage tracking in Power BI.
  • Work closely with the business users to align and maintain reporting standards with business rules.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Training and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, information systems, statistics or equivalent/related field. 
  • 3+ years of experience in BI development, data visualization, and/or analytics.
  • Strong expertise in Azure Data Factory, Azure Fabric, Power BI (including DAX) and other Power Platform programs, Power Query, and advanced visualization techniques.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake, and Azure Data Factory.
  • Advanced training and experience working with SQL databases and other big data technologies.

 

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

  • Knowledge of MS Office and Excel manipulation of pivot tables, query writing and VBA skills
  • Strong analytical skills; specifically, knowledge of advanced analytical tools including Python, SSIS, SQL, or other analytic software packages.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling techniques (Star Schema, Snowflake Schema) and dimensional modeling.
  • Ability to work independently and in support of cross-functional teams in agile environments.
  • Strong general business acumen and an ability to translate business user needs into technical requirements.
  • Ability to build processes to support data transformation and data structures.
  • Experience in ETL processes and tools (SSIS, Talend, Apache NinFi, Airflow, DBT).
  • Technical skills to include the following:  SQL, Python, DAX.
  • Strong statistical background with emphasis on probability and regression.
  • Experience with AI/ML analytics, including predictive modeling and automation tools.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Team oriented player.

Preferred Certifications (Optional)

  • Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate
  • AWS/Azure/Google Cloud Data Analytics Certifications
  • Experience with Azure DevOps for CI/CD deployment.

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Working Conditions

Office environment and occasional exposure to manufacturing plant environment, with some abnormal variations in temperature, unavoidable fumes, noise, dust and atmospheric conditions.

 

Work from home or partial work from home option available for this role. 

 

Travel requirements up to 10%

 

Pay Range: $90,000.00/yr. - $100,000.00/yr.

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target for the position at the time of posting. Within the range, the compensation will be determined based on education/training, skill set, experience, and other organizational needs.
