MDK, an innovative law firm, is seeking a Manager of Workforce Planning and Analytics to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing current and projected workloads to forecast staffing needs and optimize resource allocation across our legal and operational teams. You will collaborate closely with HR, Finance, and leadership to align staffing strategies with business goals, provide actionable insights on team utilization, and drive process improvements. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a strong analytical background, dedicated to ensuring industry best practices in workforce planning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Forecasting and Capacity Planning:
- Analyze current and projected client casework volumes to forecast staffing needs for both short- and long-term planning.
- Identify seasonal trends and demand surges to proactively recommend adjustments in resource allocation.
- Team Utilization and Capacity Analysis:
- Collaborate with Legal Leadership, attorneys, and Operations Leaders to assess team allocations and highlight areas where additional support is needed.
- Identify opportunities to reallocate resources to non-client projects such as training, continuous improvement, and knowledge management initiatives.
- Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Develop and maintain workforce planning models and dashboards using tools like Excel, Power BI, or Tableau.
- Monitor workforce productivity and efficiency metrics, providing visibility into utilization, availability, and staffing projections.
- Collaboration and Cross-Functional Alignment:
- Work closely with HR, IT, Finance, and Operations leaders to ensure workforce models align with business priorities, hiring plans, and budget forecasting.
- Partner with HR to provide operational insights into staffing needs, particularly for evergreen roles.
- Collaborate with Operations leaders to stay aligned on evolving skill sets and development needs.
- Process Improvement:
- Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance forecasting accuracy.
- Stay updated on new workforce planning technologies, tools, and methodologies to incorporate relevant innovations.
- Compliance and Best Practices:
- Ensure workforce planning activities comply with labor laws and reflect industry best practices.
Qualifications
Requirements:
Must-Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, operations, human resources, statistics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in workforce planning, operations analysis, or a similar role.
- Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, advanced formulas, data modeling) and data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau or similar).
- Experience with forecasting methods (e.g., regression, time-series, scenario planning).
- Comfort interpreting statistical trends and converting them into business recommendations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to handle sensitive or confidential information with discretion.
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
Nice-to-Have:
- Experience with scenario modeling, demand forecasting, or resource management is highly preferred.
- Basic experience with SQL or Python for data manipulation.
- Ability to automate data pulls or reports (e.g., using Power Query or scripting tools).
- Knowledge of HR practices and labor laws is advantageous.
