The Board of Bar Examiners:
The Board of Bar Examiners is a public-interest body entrusted with protecting the integrity of the legal admissions process in Massachusetts. Established to rigorously assess the qualifications of law school graduates seeking admission to the Massachusetts bar, the Board plays a vital role in ensuring that only candidates who meet the highest standards of legal knowledge and ethical readiness are admitted to practice. Through careful evaluation of each applicant’s educational background, character, and professional competence, the Board helps safeguard the quality of legal representation available to the public.
Position Summary:
The Massachusetts Board of Bar Examiners seeks a detail-oriented and mission-driven Data Analyst to support its work in ensuring the integrity and fairness of the bar admission process. This dual-role position is responsible for analyzing and reporting on data related to bar admissions and exam performance, as well as providing program coordination and project management support for key aspects of the bar examination process. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical skills, a commitment to public service, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment. The Data Analyst works under the supervision of, and acts as a confidential assistant to, the Executive Director or her designee.
Qualifications
Major Duties:
· Collect, organize, and analyze data related to bar exam performance, admission trends, and candidate demographics.
· Develop dashboards, charts, and regular reports for internal and external stakeholders.
· Support data requests from national bodies, policymakers, and researchers.
· Prepare and edit correspondence, reports and similar documents for review and/or signature by the Executive Director.
· Assist the Executive Director with research, documentation, and communication related to bar exam matters.
· Screen emails and telephone calls on behalf of the Executive Director and answer inquiries from members of the public.
· Coordinate operational elements of the bar exam, including logistics, scheduling, and candidate communications.
· Assist with planning and execution of major projects (e.g., adoption of new testing methods, technology platforms, or policy changes).
· Track project timelines and deliverables, and report on progress to senior leadership.
· Create and disseminate communications to stakeholders such as petitioners, law school personnel and others as designated by the Executive Director and Director of Testing.
· Act as liaison with law schools, Judicial and Executive Branch agencies, Board members, Committees and others as directed.
· Participate in the development of policy and procedure relative to the administration and operations of the Board of Bar Examiners.
· Perform special projects involving considerable research and the preparation and/or coordination of activities and written correspondence, or reports related to those projects.
· Establish and maintain electronic and paper filing systems to ensure the secure and organized retention of records.
· Assemble non-standard testing applications for review by the Director of Testing and Executive Director.
· Perform other duties as directed by the Executive Director or her designee.
Minimum Position Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, statistics, public administration, public policy or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Minimum of two years of experience in office administration or has demonstrated success in working in a professional office environment and managing administrative office procedures and systems.
· Knowledge of and experience in working with data processing systems and functions
· Expertise in Microsoft platforms especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

· Ability to work independently and to exercise sound judgment in identifying issues and recommend feasible solutions.
· Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, respectfully and professionally with members of the public, coworkers, and colleagues.
· Ability to develop and maintain complete and accurate professional files.
· Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment.
Supervision Received:
Work is performed under the general direction of the Executive Director and/or her designee.
Salary Range:
This position is designated Confidential at grade 14, with a salary range of $65,320.58 (Step 1) to $87,521.20 (Step 8).
