Director, Software Engineering, Innovation Lab

We are seeking a Director, Software Engineering, Innovation Lab to help optimize our architecture and processes to accelerate delivery and innovation.  We are looking for an independent thinker who makes convincing, evidence-based, consensus-oriented decisions. Lytx understands safe and unsafe driving and roadway conditions for over 4000 fleet customers, powering over 1 million vehicles travelling billions of miles each year.  If you’re interested in real time distributed computing intelligence (edge IoT + cloud+ AI), with data from GPS, sensors, computer vision models, vehicles, 3rd party sources like weather, traffic or deriving insights from big data, Lytx is the place for you!
 
You’ll Get To: 
•    Define and develop competencies that include technical strategy, application modernization, engineering and innovations, digital transformation, AI & ML, IoT, tech due diligence and enable clients to modernize their application portfolio through a transformative approach. 
•    Hire, mentor, lead and motivate a team of purpose driven Engineers capable of rapidly delivering and learning . 
•    Must be able to go as deep as necessary to validate design and technology directions and solve problems . 
•    Execute architectural design frameworks to ensure high quality information systems are delivered expeditiously and conduct design, architecture and code reviews. 
•    Research, study & be a student to industry trends and changes, competitive approaches, and available future technologies and align ideas to Lytx’s strategic plan. 
•    Own and evolve product capabilities with a focus on native AI ground up, open-source solutions and work cross functionally across product management, product marketing and engineering teams.
•    Drive the technical vision, capabilities, and design of the product, transforming product strategy & business priorities to a short-term/long-term technology roadmap.  
•    Identify and champion key technology investments needed to build a sustainable & long-term competitive platform for existing or new product features and functions.  
•    Leverage knowledge to evangelize and place strategic bets in product investments.    
•    Perform other duties as assigned.    


What You’ll Need:  
•    BS Degree in CS, or similar technical field of study or equivalent practical experience. 
•    10+ years of prior experience leading or managing dynamic engineering teams. I.e. aligning with cross functional teams such as product management, product marketing and engineering etc.
•    Experience with client facing solutioning and user research.
•    10+ years of full stack software development  with a focus on AI. (Ground up native AI, open source)
•    Experience with Large Language Models (LLMs), including both open-source and commercially available AI tools, to develop and deploy advanced NLP solutions, optimize model performance, and integrate cutting-edge AI capabilities into products and services.
•    Display a high degree of willingness and ability to understand a new business domain, a new product, the product's business and technical underpinnings.  
•    Ability to inspire your team to think outside the box as they deliver high quality software solutions.  
•    Ability to provide logical frameworks and data to support conclusions and ideas. 
•    Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, unstructured start-up like environment. 
•    Preferred: Experience in one or more specific IoT / embedded / (e.g. IP cameras), robotics/AV and real-time systems preferred.

Salary is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.  This position is also eligible for an incentive compensation plan.  The expected hiring salary for this position is:

$199,250.00 - $251,750.00
