Business Overview

The Marketplace Business is responsible for operating Rakuten Ichiba, Rakuten's founding e-commerce platform.

Established in 1997 along with Rakuten's founding, Rakuten Ichiba embodies Rakuten's mission to empower people and society through innovation. It has created a system where merchants in commerce can easily open shops, transcending geographical limitations and delivering the joy of shopping to customers throughout Japan.

Today, it has grown into one of the largest e-commerce sites in Japan and is used by a large number of customers.

Department Overview

The Rakuten Ichiba Marketing Department is responsible for planning and executing marketing strategies aimed at expanding sales for Rakuten Ichiba, one of Japan's largest online shopping malls with over 100 million registered members.

Within the Marketing Department, the Marketing Planning Office plays a crucial role as the department's think tank, responsible for cross-functional strategy development, data analysis, and investment allocation.

The mission of this position is to enhance marketing strategies and drive DX (digital transformation) for the medium- to long-term growth of Rakuten Ichiba, through business process improvement utilizing data, AI, and technology.

This is a critical role supporting the Marketing Department's productivity by establishing a robust data architecture.

This position offers the appealing opportunity to develop marketing skills by working with the Marketing Department's overall data and the analytical tasks that utilize it.

After joining, you will learn about the characteristics of market-specific data in areas such as campaign and visit data.

Position Details

In order to strengthen the marketing strategy for Rakuten's medium- to long-term growth, you will work with business and development-related departments to plan and improve business operations using data, AI and technology.


- Handling requests for data analysis and visualization for the Marketing Department and other departments.
- Assisting with the preparation of performance reports for management control.
- Visualizing and managing data using BI tools (DOMO, Tableau).
- Designing and building the data marts required for these tasks.
- Communicating data requirements and requests for the analytical environment to the development team

Example Projects
- Visualization of business KPIs using DOMO/Tableau.
- Creation of hourly sales reports for the entire company.
- Behavioral analysis and database construction using site analytics tools.
- Development of an analytics platform utilizing vast amounts of campaign data.
- Internal AI promotion project.
- Customer analysis using various tools.

Work Environment

7 people (3 employees, 4 temporary employees and partner staff)

Human resources with the following experience / background are active (for example)

- Consultant at an IT consulting firm
- Engineer at a system integrator
- Sales planning for an electrical component manufacturer
- E-commerce store operator on an online marketplace
- New graduate (within 3 years of experience)

Mandatory Qualifications:

Skills:
- Project management skills (experience in PMO or requirements definition for data utilization projects)
- Experience with DWH/Data Mart related projects

Desired Candidate Profile:
- Individuals with a strong interest in data analysis and data utilization.
- Individuals who can communicate effectively with other departments and facilitate constructive discussions.
- Individuals who can adapt flexibly to change.

Desired Qualifications:

Data architecture projects: Experience in designing and implementing data architectures.
Analytical tools: Proficiency in data analysis using tools such as Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, SQL, Python, and R.
Improving operational efficiency: Experience automating tasks and improving efficiency using Python or Excel VBA. or Experience in streamlining workflows using Python or Excel VBA.
Upstream processes of BI: Experience in the initial stages of BI projects, including KPI definition and analysis requirements gathering/design.
Website analytics tools: Hands-on experience with website analytics platforms like Adobe SiteCatalyst and Google Analytics.
Creating tools using Excel VBA: Experience developing custom tools using Excel VBA.
Big data and AI: Experience with projects involving big data technologies and AI techniques (machine learning, deep learning).
Leading small teams: Experience managing and mentoring small teams of 3-4 individuals.

Additional information on English Qualification

TOEIC Score exceeding 800 (or similar level of English ability) or a University Degree earned in an English-speaking country
*TOEIC Score of 600 or higher is acceptable for fixed-term employees.
In this case, it is necessary to achieve a TOEIC Score exceeding 800 after joining Rakuten in order to be eligible to become a regular employee.
If no evidence is available to prove the qualifications denoted above, taking an IP test, organized by Rakuten, during selection process is required.
