Data Engineer (E2) | Strategy & Operations | London | Hybrid (2 days office)

About the role: 

This role will sit in the Strategy and Operations & Data Products team, as part of the Central Data Products team that owns OSP Insights. You will work closely with the Data Engineering Product teams and more broadly with analysts across Ocado Group.  

Scope for this role 

  • Work with Partners to develop products that solves real partner needs
  • Design and deliver data models in BigQuery data warehouse for external and internal consumption using DBT
  • Build data products in Looker

You will be instrumental in transforming data into well-structured reliable datasets that empower our organisation and partners to make informed, data driven decisions. Working closely with partners and our central data products team, you'll define requirements and build efficient data models optimized for reporting. You will be responsible for constructing essential data warehouse components (facts, dimensions, reporting tables) and developing the corresponding LookML models in Looker. You will have exposure to how those are being exposed to clients through OSP Insights. 

What we're looking for:

You will need to have…

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to gather and translate partner issues and feedback into clear requirements, and transform those requirements into accessible data products for internal and external use
  • Data Modelling: Experience designing, developing and maintaining data models to support data products
  • SQL: Proficient in data transformation tools (DBT), compiled query debugging, and query optimization
  • Looker Development: Proficiency in LookML modeling and Looker API integration.
  • Analytical experience, particularly in data storytelling
  • Proficient in applying SDLC principles throughout the development lifecycle

Nice to have…

  • Can build dashboards:
  • Proficiency building data visualizations and dashboards
  • Can administer and configure the Looker instance
  • Proficiency using python to manipulate data and call APIs 
  • Proficiency in git version control, including experience with branch management, code reviews and repository management
  • Experience administering Looker
  • Can actively engage with Bigquery DWH development
  • Familiarity with DBT concepts and workflows
  • Understanding of relational and dimensional data modeling principles
  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code such as Teraform 
  • Can deliver advanced BI products
  • Experience embedding dashboards and reports into web applications 
  • Experience building and deploying applications
