Principal Business Intelligence Engineer/Data Analyst

Please Note: This is a Utah-based hybrid position which will require some regular in-office days each week. Additionally, employment with BambooHR is contingent on passing both a background and credit check. 

Essential Job Duties

BambooHR is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Principal BI Engineer/Data Analyst to join our growing Business Intelligence team. In this role, you will be a key contributor to the development and implementation of BI solutions that empower our teams to make data-driven decisions. Reporting to the Director of Business Intelligence, you will partner with Analytics Engineers and collaborate closely with stakeholders across the organization to translate business needs into actionable insights. This is an excellent opportunity to play a vital role in shaping our data culture and driving business success.

You will:

• Design, develop, and maintain interactive dashboards, reports, and data visualizations using BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Sigma, Omni).  
• Analyze complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights that inform business strategy and decision-making.
• Partner with leaders and stakeholders across Finance, Sales, Customer Success, Marketing, Product, and other departments to understand their data and reporting requirements. 
• Stay abreast of the latest trends and technologies in business intelligence and data analytics, inclusive of AI use in BI. Evaluate and recommend new tools and platforms to enhance the team's capabilities and efficiency over time. 
• Elicit and document clear and comprehensive business requirements for BI solutions, translating business needs into technical specifications and solutions. 
• Collaborate with Analytics Engineers to ensure efficient up-system transformations and create data models/views that will hydrate accurate and reliable BI reporting.
• Contribute to data quality and governance efforts to ensure the accuracy and consistency of BI data.  
• Provide mentorship and guidance to Analytics Engineers/junior BI team members, sharing best practices and coaching them to develop BI Engineering & Data Analysis capabilities.
• Maintain a strong understanding of BI tools and technologies, staying up-to-date with new features and trends. 

What You Need to Get the Job Done

• 8+ years of progressive experience in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, or a related field (less time required if paired with relevant Master’s degree)  
• Strong proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Sigma, Omni) with ability to package and present at various levels throughout the enterprise. 
• Solid understanding of the data transformation process and ability to work with Analytics Engineering and or Data Engineers.  
• Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications and deliver effective BI solutions.  
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and communicate findings clearly.  
• Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.  
• Experience working with data from various business functions (e.g., Finance, Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, Product).  
• A proactive and results-oriented approach with a strong sense of ownership.  
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Business Analytics, Data or Decision Science, Finance, or a related discipline.
• Familiarity with Advanced Analytics concepts helping to drive predictive and prescriptive insights within the enterprise
