PetroChina International (London) / Petroineos Trading Limited is building first class data driven trading capacity. Leveraging our advanced big data infrastructure together with GenAI, we seek to empower our trading venture through the creation of sophisticated, automated AI/ML models and seek a Data Analyst to support us. 

These models are designed to not only streamline and amplify our trading operations but also to optimise the management of our physical assets.

Reporting to the Head of Data Analysis, we are on the lookout for a proficient individual to join our dynamic Data Science Team on a full-time, permanent contract basis. This role offers the opportunity to engage with state-of-the-art technology within the stimulating environment of front office trading.

As a collaborative member of the Data Team, your role will encompass the procurement, examination, and modelling of data to drive innovation and efficiency in our business processes. Therefore, the successful candidate will possess excellent data analytical, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders. Attention to detail, discretion, and the ability to assess market trends and make data-driven decisions are essential qualities for this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Acquisition and Quality Assurance: Secure data from both primary and secondary sources, followed by rigorous testing and monitoring to ensure data integrity.
  • Data Preparation and Modelling: Execute thorough data cleansing and pre-processing. Prepare datasets for both prescriptive and predictive modelling to support decision-making processes.
  • Data Analysis and Pattern Recognition: Conduct comprehensive data analysis to uncover and interpret trends within datasets.
  • Visualization and Business Intelligence: Create insightful data visualizations and business intelligence dashboards utilizing SQL and PowerBI, facilitating informed business strategies.
  • Collaborative Model Development: Partner with data scientists to construct scalable AI and ML models, contributing to the advancement of our analytical capabilities.
  • Data Governance: Adhere to stringent data governance protocols to maintain high standards of data quality and security.
  • Project Ownership: Assume full responsibility for assigned projects, encompassing requirement elicitation, solution design, development, and the maintenance of industrialized solutions.

What we’re looking for / Skills that will help you in the role

Required 
  • Ideally a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data science, Maths, or a degree in a related and/or relevant field.
  • Previous professional work experience in data analysis (is advantageous).
  • Good analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Good hands-on experience with Python Programming language (essential).
  • Good hands-on experience with Pandas or Spark Dataframes (essential).
  • Prior experience with SQL.
  • Sound experience with reporting platform such as PowerBI.
  • Proven work experience with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
Nice to have
  • Previous experience working with databricks technology.
  • Excellent experience with Data Warehousing 
  • Prior experience working in a hybrid cloud environment 
  • Sound experience in developing and supporting analytical models/tools.

Please note: This is a full-time, permanent position with the job based in Charing Cross, London. The role is available to be worked in a hybrid capacity of 4 days in the office / 1 day from home.
