WHO WE AREAt Proxima Fusion, we're driven by a bold mission – to redefine the future of sustainable energy. Our unique concept, built upon the groundbreaking W7-X stellarator and the latest advances in technology, paves the way for commercially viable fusion power plants.
Our work in stellarator optimization, powered by cutting-edge computation and machine learning, is propelling us into uncharted territories of fusion technology. New higher performance design points are unlocked by high temperature superconducting magnets.
We're on a journey to redefine the energy landscape, ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.
YOUR IMPACTA magnetically confined plasma lies at the core of Proxima’s ambitions to design and construct a first-of-a-kind fusion power plant. The stellarator’s magnetic geometry and plasma control systems must be well-tailored in order to obtain and optimize the necessary fusion-relevant conditions. The physics underpinning this endeavour is profoundly complex, demanding deep theoretical insight into nonlinear systems and detailed computational analysis.
As a plasma physicist at Proxima, you will play a central role in developing and applying models that characterise the behaviour of fusion plasmas. Your work will span from fundamental physics to practical application—interpreting the latest experimental research from leading plasma facilities, and incorporating these insights into the engineering behind next-generation stellarators.
You’ll collaborate closely with engineers and industry partners to ensure that plasma dynamics is fully integrated in our design process, shaping the future of fusion energy.

WHY JOIN PROXIMA FUSION

  • You will get to work on some of the most complex tech challenges to bring abundant, safe, clean energy to the world.
  • You'll get to join and learn from an exceptional selection of accomplished and driven individuals.
  • Do your life’s best work and enjoy the journey.
  • Get to show that big things are possible in Europe when you assemble the best talent.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Collaborate with academic partners to develop and apply workflows that characterise plasma performance in one or more of the following domains within a stellarator reactor: Edge impurity transport and exhaust scenarios, Energetic particle interactions and burning plasma phenomena, Plasma heating and fuelling systems.
  • Communicate your results and collaborate with engineers to ensure reactor components correctly meet the requirements for effective plasma confinement and control.

WHO YOU ARE

  • Hold a postgraduate degree in physics. Plasma physics is preferred but not essential.
  • Proficient in Python, C++, and Fortran.
  • Proficient in modern software development workflows.
  • Proactive in framing problems, as well as proposing and interrogating solutions.
  • Motivated to work with and cultivate a diverse team of physicists, engineers and more.

INTERVIEW PROCESS

  • Recruiter Interview (30-60 min).
  • Technical Screening (30 min).
  • Technical Panel (3x60 min).
  • CEO call (30 min).
