About the Job

As the Senior Director - Data Science, this person will lead and scale our data science capabilities, driving strategic initiatives that leverage advanced analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to unlock significant business value and grow a high-impact engineering team in Bangalore. You will be responsible for defining the vision, strategy, and roadmap for data science within the organization, overseeing a team of highly skilled data scientists, and ensuring the successful execution and deployment of data-driven solutions that directly impact our products, operations, and customer experience. This role requires a blend of deep technical expertise, exceptional leadership, and strong business acumen. 

Responsibilities:

  • Define and execute the long-term data science strategy and roadmap, aligning it with overall business objectives and priorities. 
  • Identify high-impact opportunities where data science can drive innovation, efficiency, and competitive advantage. 
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of data scientists, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning. 
  • Provide expert guidance on complex analytical and machine learning methodologies. 
  • Ensure the adoption of best practices in data science, MLOps, experimentation, and ethical AI. 
  • Oversee the entire lifecycle of data science projects from problem definition and data exploration to model deployment and monitoring. 
  • Work closely with product, engineering, business intelligence, and executive leadership to translate business challenges into data science problems and deliver impactful solutions. 
  • Manage resources, budget, and project pipelines effectively to ensure timely delivery and maximize ROI. 
  • Establish and maintain data governance, quality, and security standards within the data science function. 

Requirements

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in data science, with at least 10 years in a leadership role managing and scaling data science teams. 
  • Proven track record of defining and executing data science strategies that have demonstrably impacted business outcomes. 
  • Deep expertise in a wide range of machine learning techniques (e.g., supervised, unsupervised, reinforcement learning, deep learning), statistical modeling, and experimental design. 
  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in data science (e.g., Python, R) 
  • Strong experience with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP). 
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. 
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities. 
  • Experience with MLOps practices and tools for model deployment, monitoring, and versioning. 
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
