Senior Software Engineer, Android Speech

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of experience with software development in C++, Java/Kotlin or Python.
• Experience in technical leadership, leading project teams, and setting technical direction.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• Experience with building products around machine learning models.
• Experience in one or more of the following: machine learning training, data processing, evaluation, etc.
• Knowledge of ML frameworks such as PyTorch, Jax, TensorFlow.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate across Google ML, application and platform teams to advance on-device speech capabilities and technology.
• Design, develop, and implement speech features that enhance user interaction across various platforms including Android mobile, WearOS, Automotive, TV, ChromeOS, and Nest devices.
• Integrate speech technologies including Speech recognition (ASR), synthesis (TTS) including new capabilities enabled with Gemini into Google platforms and applications.
• Develop and deploy on-device speech models ensuring reliability, battery efficiency, and performance for ambient and active speech use cases.
• Optimize speech models and systems for peak performance, quality and system health across a wide range of hardware configurations and device platforms.
