DNV ENERGY Insights USA, Inc. seeks a Energy Data Scientist to work at our office in Austin, Texas. 

 

Job Duties: 

  • Responsible for using statistical programs, developing internal analytical solutions, and using other tools to conduct intensive analysis of project data and client challenges, complemented by objective research to support project needs. 
  • Assist with maintaining data pipelines by collecting, cleaning, and standardizing, and analyze data from various internal and external sources (e.g., APIs, FTP servers). 
  • Use strong communication skills to translate data analysis findings into coherent written and verbal conclusions for client-facing reports and professional papers. 
  • Develop and maintain products that deliver data visualizations/reports to enable users to grasp concepts, identify patterns, and make better business decisions. 
  • Interact with other team members and clients in a manner that is professional and promotes collaboration.
  • Hands-on tool development and analytics. 
  • Develop or improve routines that can improve business or analytic processes. 
  • Utilize parallelized programming (Databricks, Spark, Hadoop, etc.) for batch processing across large datasets. 
  • Brainstorm, design, and code original analyses that quantify the achieved impacts, forecast potential impacts, and estimate cost-effectiveness of utility-scale energy efficiency, demand response, and distributed energy resources programs. 
  • Improve and recommend data collection, cleaning, and quality control specifications and data sampling techniques. 
  • Apply missing data treatments as needed. 
  • Model site-level energy usage using a variety of modeling techniques such as linear regressions, random forest algorithms, artificial neural networks, etc. 
  • Assist with Agile scrum management. 
  • Estimate site-level and panel energy consumption regression models using time of week and temperature, change point, or other models for thousands of customers. 
  • Conduct other ad-hoc regression, statistics, algebraic, and numerical calculation tasks to aid in determining impact of demand response and energy efficiency programs. 
  • Develop modeling toolkits to drive efficiency and scale in econometric analyses. 
  • This position requires 10% domestic travel. 
  • Role is hybrid allowing periodic work from home within reasonable commuting distance of the Austin, TX office.

Main Requirements:

Master’s degree in Engineering, Statistics, or related field of study and no prior occupation experience.

In lieu of a Master’s degree in stated fields and no prior employment experience, employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Statistics, or related field of study and two (2) years of experience as a Data Scientist or related role where required experience gained.

 

Special Skills: Also requires education, training or experience in the following:

  • Strong knowledge in at least one of the following areas: database development (PostgreSQL or SQL Server), statistical modeling (using Python), or data visualization (PowerBI or Plotly Dash);
  • Relevant courses/experience with Python programming or database development and management;
  • Proficient experience with the following libraries – Pandas, scikit-learn, requests;
  • Econometrics, statistics, or biostatistics coursework, or experience, at the graduate level;
  • Applied knowledge with AI/regression modeling techniques - like linear regressions, random forest algorithms, artificial neural networks, etc.; and
  • Using strong communication skills to translate data analysis findings into coherent written and verbal conclusions for users, clients or stakeholders.
