Activities

The Predictive Department provides machine learning signals of significant added value for the various trading desks, aiding in the overall efficiency of the energy transition. It will become the Center of competence for Data science / ML for Gas & Power Trading.

 

As a Machine Learning – Data engineer, you will play a key role in supporting the expansion of TotalEnergies' gas and power business by enhancing data capabilities for trading and risk management. You will also contribute to data product life cycle serving trends across all commodities traded by TGP, including global gas, electricity, emissions, LNG, Freight, and more.

The role involves working on a significant change program aligned with TotalEnergies’ transition to renewable power.

The ML - Data Engineer will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and maintaining robust data pipelines and cloud architectures that enable advanced analytics and trading strategies. The ideal candidate will have expertise in AWS, Databricks, DevOps automation, and large-scale data processing.

You will find below your key responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimize data pipelines: Build, maintain, and optimize ETL processes using AWS Fargate, Lambda, S3, Mongo and Databricks to ensure high data quality and timely availability.
  • Infrastructure and Cloud Engineering: Design and manage cloud-based data solutions to support high-performance analytics and trading operations.
  • Feature Engineering and Data Processing: Develop golden datasets and features with ML models and forecasting algorithms.
  • DevOps & CI/CD Automation: Automate deployment workflows using Terraform, GitHub Actions.
  • Data Governance & Security: Ensure compliance with industry best practices, including data security, quality assurance, and reliability.
  • API Integration: Discover and integrate external data sources through API development and management.
  • Collaboration & Business Support: Work closely with business users to ensure data solutions align with trading and optimization needs.

Candidate Profile

  • You hold a Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.
  • You have 6+ years of experience in data engineering, cloud architecture, and DevOps.
  • You have a strong expertise in Expertise in AWS services (Lambda, Fargate, S3), and proficiency in Python, Mongo, Spark, and experience with Databricks.
  • You also have a strong experience in CI/CD automation using Terraform, GitHub Actions.
  • You already show knowledge of API integration and working with structured/unstructured data sources.
  • Previous working experience with time-series analysis and forecasting is a plus.
  • Fluent in English (oral and written) – knowledge of French is an advantage.
  • The position requires strong problem-solving skills, clear communication, and ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
