Base salary will be in the range $113,377 - $127,112 + 17% Superannuation (HEW Level 8)
Based at Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Data Engineer to join our research team and support the delivery of robust, high-performance data infrastructure and analytics solutions. In this hands-on role, you will work closely with researchers to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines, with a strong focus on data extraction from electronic medical records (EMR) using SQL. Your expertise will play a critical role in enabling data-driven insights and enhancing research impact.
Key responsibilities will include:
Develop, maintain, and optimise ETL processes and databases particularly from EMR systems.
Provide expert technical support and advice to researchers throughout the data lifecycle, including data integration, management, and reporting.
Design and implement scalable data solutions and dashboards that translate complex datasets into actionable insights.
Troubleshoot data issues, contribute to technical documentation, and participate in initiatives that enhance data engineering capability and innovation.

A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, with demonstrated experience in data engineering, analytics, or software development.
Proficiency in scripting and programming languages (e.g. SQL, Python), and experience in developing data solutions across desktop and web platforms.
Practical experience designing and implementing ETL solutions and working with both relational and non-relational databases to manage large, complex datasets.
Familiarity with cloud platforms (preferably Microsoft Azure), and knowledge of real-world DevOps practices including CI/CD pipelines and Agile methodologies.
Experience with data modelling, system optimisation, and ensuring data integrity and quality.
Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive health data, including experience with data de-identification and pseudonymisation.
Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
