• Base salary will be in the range $113,377 - $127,112 + 17% Superannuation (HEW Level 8)

• Based at Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital

About This Opportunity 

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Data Engineer to join our research team and support the delivery of robust, high-performance data infrastructure and analytics solutions. In this hands-on role, you will work closely with researchers to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines, with a strong focus on data extraction from electronic medical records (EMR) using SQL. Your expertise will play a critical role in enabling data-driven insights and enhancing research impact.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Develop, maintain, and optimise ETL processes and databases particularly from EMR systems.

• Provide expert technical support and advice to researchers throughout the data lifecycle, including data integration, management, and reporting.

• Design and implement scalable data solutions and dashboards that translate complex datasets into actionable insights.

• Troubleshoot data issues, contribute to technical documentation, and participate in initiatives that enhance data engineering capability and innovation.

About You

• A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, with demonstrated experience in data engineering, analytics, or software development.

• Proficiency in scripting and programming languages (e.g. SQL, Python), and experience in developing data solutions across desktop and web platforms.

• Practical experience designing and implementing ETL solutions and working with both relational and non-relational databases to manage large, complex datasets.

• Familiarity with cloud platforms (preferably Microsoft Azure), and knowledge of real-world DevOps practices including CI/CD pipelines and Agile methodologies.

• Experience with data modelling, system optimisation, and ensuring data integrity and quality.

• Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive health data, including experience with data de-identification and pseudonymisation.

• Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
