Summary:
The Cloud Engineer will play a critical role on the IT team, overseeing Azure administration, configuration and design along with SaaS application management to ensure ASPCA teams across the country are supported. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing and optimizing cloud infrastructure, hands-on experience in PowerShell and Python for automation and scripting, and the ability to manage and integrate SaaS applications within Azure environment. Additionally, you will be involved in designing, implementing, and maintaining Azure-based solutions while ensuring seamless operation and integration of SaaS applications to support our cloud strategy and business objectives at the A.
The Cloud Engineer will apply proven communication skills, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of best practices to create and support simple, scalable, compliant, and more automated ASPCA mission-critical information and systems. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, be a team player, and have a desire to support the ASPCA in achieving our mission of ending cruelty to animals.
In this position, you will never be bored! The ASPCA supports a broad portfolio of technologies to support a highly mobile and diverse staff. Maintaining a presence in multiple geographic locations, the team provides support (hands-on and remote) to over a dozen facilities and field operations, and over a thousand individual staff members. Your work will be integral to the organization as you work cross-functionally to ensure ASPCA staff, partners and communities have the systems needed to work effectively and efficiently to improve animal welfare.
This position will report to the Sr. Director IT Operations and Information Security. This remote-based position (which requires travel, as described below) is open to all candidates based within the United States. Preference will be given to candidates based within commuting distance of New York City, who will be required to commute to our New York City 8th Avenue office once a week.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Azure Configuration and Design
Collaborate with clients to understand their business objectives and technical requirements.
Design and implement Azure infrastructure solutions, including virtual networks, subnets, and hybrid cloud connectivity.
Configure and manage Azure services such as Azure SQL, Azure Functions, and Logic Apps.
Develop and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) templates using tools like ARM templates or Terraform.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud architectures.
Azure and Server Administration
Manage and administer Azure cloud environments, including virtual machines, storage accounts, networking, and security.
Monitor and optimize Azure resources for performance, cost and scalability.
Implement and maintain Microsoft Entra, role-based access control (RBAC), and other Identity and Access Management Solutions (Okta).
Troubleshoot and resolve Azure-related issues, ensuring high availability and reliability.
Update hardware and software, assist end-users, troubleshoot problems, and develop and implement security best practices.
Create recovery systems, customize server operating options and manage large amounts of data.
SaaS Application Management
Manage the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of SaaS applications within Azure environments.
Ensure seamless integration of SaaS applications with Azure services, including data storage, analytics, and machine learning tools.
Monitor and optimize the performance of SaaS applications in the cloud.
Collaborate with IT Ops peers and vendors to troubleshoot and resolve application related issues.
Security and Compliance
Implement and enforce security best practices for Azure environment and SaaS applications, including encryption, firewalls and threat detection.
Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations (e.g., PCI, and Data Privacy).
Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments for both Azure and SaaS environments.
Monitor any activity and audit security systems and policies.
Automation and Scripting
Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell and Python to streamline cloud operations, developments, and SaaS application management.
Automate routine tasks, such as resource provisioning, backups, and monitoring.
Integrate Azure services and SaaS applications with CI/CD pipelines for seamless deployment and updates.
Collaboration and Support
Work closely with development, operations, security and other cross-functional teams, including engineers, and project managers, to ensure successful implementation of cloud solutions and support cloud initiatives.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
Document cloud architectures, SaaS application configurations, processes, and procedures for knowledge sharing.
Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance during the deployment and post-implementation phases.

Qualifications:
Candidates need creativity to imagine innovative, effective new solutions and designs
Energetic, self-motivated, and resourceful
Proficiency in scripting and automation using PowerShell and Python
Working knowledge of networking principles (e.g., VPN, DNS, load balancing) in a cloud context
Familiarity with infrastructure as code (IAC) tools like ARM or Terraform
Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting and communication skills
Relevant cloud certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, SaaS certified professional) preferred
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
Strong understanding of cloud computing concepts and Azure services
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Education and Work Experience:
Associate’s Degree (preferred)
High School Diploma or GED (required)
3+ years hands-on experience in Azure Administration, configuration, and design
At least 3 years of professional experience with automation and scripting required; experience with PowerShell and Python strongly preferred
Experience managing and integrating SaaS applications with cloud environments
Familiarity with Github Actions, CI/CD pipelines, and version control systems (e.g. Git)
Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
Experience with Azure Data Factory is a plus
At least 2 years of experience with cloud migration, two years of experience with hybrid cloud solutions, or 1 year of experience with containerization strongly preferred
Experience with SaaS application deployment, configuration, and management
Additional Information
Must be available for off-hours support
Must be willing to travel to ASPCA locations up to 10% annually as required to support solutions and achieve success.
Compensation
The target hiring range is based on where the employee works, which for remote roles is the employee’s primary location of residence, and its respective cost of labor. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only, and compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. The expected hiring salary ranges for this role are set forth below and may be modified in the future.
- Zone 1: $95,000 - $100,000 annually
- Zone 2: $105,000 - $110,000 annually
- Zone 3: $115,000 - $120,000 annually
