Summary:
Hitachi America, Ltd. (www.hitachi-america.us) is looking for a Ph.D./Master’s degree holder in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field to join our R&D team as a researcher to contribute in the area of Industry Automation/Robotics. The Researcher will collaborate with HAL Researchers, Hitachi R&D in Japan and industry partners as well as customers on Industrial Automation solutions. The Robotics Researcher will focus on developing advanced robotics technology and contributing to address industrial and societal challenges. This role focuses on critical applications in industrial automation by leveraging the advancements in computer vision, robotics, machine learning and AI. The position requires the researcher to work as a team member with good communication and written skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and implement control and motion planning algorithms for a variety of robots, such as robot arm, mobile robot, mobile manipulator, humanoids, etc.
Design and implement learning models for robot vision, manipulation, and navigation
Design and implement human-robot interaction methods through natural language using state-of-the-art deep learning models
Curate robot dataset for learning, including simulation and real-world data
Publish patents and papers based on the research outcome
Identify key research directions and design research plans
Make new research proposals
Identify industrial applications and contribute to commercializing solutions
Qualifications:
Master or higher degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. (If Master’s, at least 2 years of industry experience is required or Ph.D.)
Hands-on experience with various robots, such as robot arms, mobile robots, humanoids, etc. (Required)
Experience with algorithms design and implementation for robot perception, manipulation, navigation, etc. (Required)
Experience with optimization techniques for robot motion planning and control, such as LQP, convex optimization, etc. (Required)
Experience with programming languages such as Python, C++, and MATLAB. (Required, strong programing skills including unit testing, continuous integration, in C++, Python is Preferred),
Experience with robotic simulation tools such as ROS/ROS2, Gazebo, PyBullet, or Mujoco (Required)
Extensive project experience in at least one of the following fields: robotics, machine learning, computer vision (Preferred)
Solid knowledge about robotics and vision, including kinematics, dynamics, motion planning, object detection, object recognition, object tracking, image segmentation, etc. (Preferred)
Experience in integrating robot hardware and software (Preferred, experience with deployment is a bonus)
Experience working in a production environment (Preferred)
Excellent communication and collaboration skills. (Preferred)
Publications in top robotics, computer vision and AI conferences and journals, such as ICRA, IROS, RAL, TASE, CoRL, ICCV, CVPR, etc. (Preferred)
